What is staff aug? Explain it to me like I’m a child. Coming from industry, I’ve never heard of it.

Good point. A lot of doing the least desirable and repetitive work

helpful

A company will hire “consultants” to do regular work that other people at the firm can do. No type of advisory is being done. They just need more people to do more work.

Aug is just short for augmentation

like

A client has a role they need to fill. Instead of hiring a full time employee they bring in a consultant to temporarily fill that role for whatever reason (costs, short term timeline, availability in the interim, etc) Consultants get annoyed about staff aug roles because they’re typically mundane client roles and not the “glamorous world of consulting” that’s promised

😂 “glamorous world of consulting”

It’s doing an industry job as a consultant as opposed to teaching people in industry jobs how to do their jobs better.

It’s pretty common in tech/IT roles especially. Companies will hire an external contractor (software developer, for example) for the course of a project instead of hiring someone permanently.

Also extremely common in federal

Staff Aug = Temporarily Outsourcing Roles

Basically we act as a temp agency send staff to the client to work as contractors. All supervision is done by client personnel, as opposed to by a project manager or engagement leader that you find on a traditional consulting engagement.

Added bonus: two sets of timesheets and expense reports to fill out each week.

Most peaceful time of your life. You work like a normal person. Staff Aug if short term is a blessing. Long term, might be a little harsh on the career.

We have our nanny a 10% pay raise in September to mark her two year anniversary with us (amounted to something like $2.50 more per hour). We were expecting (I was seven months pregnant at the time) and I told her it was (1) annual raise but (2) would also cover the fact that she’d be taking care of another baby. This morning she asks us whether we can talk about her raise now that she’ll be watching an extra kid. I awkwardly was like “well that’s what the prior raise covers” and she (contd)

Hi Moms- Curious to get a sense of what your different parental leave policies look like and how you have liked them. My company gave 12 weeks paid and I felt it was woefully short for my first. Before having my second, I'm interested in pushing my company to increase the time and am curious to hear what other companies offer. Beyond just the time, was your company flexible? Is it the same for all parents? Did it feel like enough? Thank you!

My husband has a strong sense of duty towards his parents - I’ve been very encouraging of it - making sure he has the freedom to be there for his family and parents in whatever way they need or want (e.g. sleeping over at his parents at least 2 nights, attending family events, making sure he goes to all their doc appts, maintaining a relationship with his sisters and their children, etc). His family and I are not from similar backgrounds so we have our struggles so I keep a distance (more below)

We have been back in the office since June, so I’m not working remotely. I plan to wait until 12/13 weeks to tell anyone at work. I’m 29 and a 4th year associate. I do work for 4 main partners, though I have closer working relationships with some more than others. Any advice appreciated!

Serious q: I'm choosing between a two BI/Ops type roles, one in a FAANG in Dublin, one in a less-known corporate in London (where I'm currently based).
