Deloitte question. I have always gotten a raise each year, the only question I ask is how much of a raise do I get. But I’m hearing from former Deloitte folks, it is naive to expect annual raises each year however small/big they are? And how does this play in Deloitte consulting vs advisory? Do one tend to withhold annual raises in base salary over the other, or is this just a deloitte culture thing? Looking at exit opportunities all over. So lmk! I’d Rather get a small raise than none at all.

I have a theory on this. Everyone has a certain set of personality traits (passion, perseverance, creativity, diligence, etc) and finding a fulfilling and meaningful life is constantly searching for work, people, and experiences that match these qualities as much as possible. Your first job might match 12 of 20, but you learn and search, and so your second job might match 15. At the same time you meet someone that meets an additional 2; so now you’re at 17. Your journey should be to close that gap until you’re enjoying every aspect of life with no regrets

What I forgot to mention is that it takes time and active introspection to understand what those traits are - and they are mutable! Vacations/travel, time off, staying single, disconnecting from social media, seeing a therapist, are all active ways to help you figure them out!

Find what makes you happy. And when you die you want to look back without much regret.

Pwc1, in my experience that’s something that sounds good on paper until you actually do it and realize it’s miserable to do that longer than a couple weeks.
“Nobody exists on purpose; nobody belongs anywhere; everybody’s going to die. Come watch TV?”
Simply put, existence is probably pointless, so the best you can do is accept that and participate anyway. What matters is your connection to other people, and if you’re lucky, at some point you’ll get to work on something bigger and more enduring than yourself.
