Mentor
You have a resign button?
Best practice
- Personal mentors (hopefully they know already and you discussed the decision with them) 1-on-1
- Career coach 1-on-1
- Project leadership 1-on-1
- They’ll provide input on how/when to tell clients and rest of team
- HR - email
- Friends who don’t know already know
- Rest of team (last day on site at the latest)
- Clients you personally care about (last day on site in-person. Don’t let leadership push you into ghosting)
- Farewell email
Ah I see. That definitely makes sense. Thanks. I can see that being a major issue for engagements that have a high turnover rate as well.
I only told my manager the day before I hit the resign button. When you hit that, they'll ask you for your last day. I chose one week later. My coach was never really helpful, so I didn't bother letting her know. I didn't want to have fake conversations with someone who wasn't really interested in my career anyway. Just sent her an email the day before my last day, that's it. Burning bridges? Idk, may be, even if you had a conversation, there was no way I would've contacted my coach in the future anyway. I felt pings are more personal than emails. So, I pinged people close to me and let them know.
Inform your managers informally first as a courtesy then go through the formal process
What do you all think about not telling them specifically which company and position you are heading to, but more letting them know in consultant speak? Ex. Strategy role for a large food and beverage company
Why do I have to disclose if its a competitor?
