Don’t use a recruiter, split a referral fee with someone that works there. Timeline is much more condensed in this market. I imagine if you are qualified and looking at a group that’s busy, you could apply and have an offer in a few days to a week. For example, it took me 3 days from application to offer at one of the firms I applied to, and that was even before this current market frenzy really grew legs.
Yes, that does work. If you don’t use a recruiter, they have more money to pay you a signing bonus, etc. Recruiters just extract value from folks that are otherwise hireable without their “help”. It also doesn’t matter if you don’t know anyone in a particular city. Do you know anyone at all? It’s okay to get the referral from someone in an entirely different state, etc.
