You are a partner and one of the responsibility is to run the firm. If you you refuse to be part of running the firm, you also don't have a right to complain about how others are running it.
Some partners enjoy internal roles more than sales - and choose to spend more time running practices etc . They get some relief on “personal” metrics - and get measured on impact on the firm . It is a big part of running the firm - sales alone doesn’t make our business happen . It is also important that new thinking is brought into all roles - client facing and internal , so I generally nudge people who skew on each side to try a tour of duty to the other side for a couple of years .

I thank God for my internal role. It’s what keeps the job fresh.
Sales hit targets this year. Internal work enables us to hit targets in future years. Both are important.
A business isn’t just made up of sales people. What P1 and P2 said. That said, you can choose to be just a sales person.
No doubt there needs to be internal roles. That said, they need to be staffed on a frequently rotating basis. Client facing responsibilities need to be held at least 70% of the time.
Absolutely. Without that the pyramid won't work. However I believe the question was more about internal responsibilities which are in addition to your client servicing role.
Things you get paid for and things that are fun, it’s always that balance. Think of a venn diagram the more it intersects the happier you are.
Network, learning, and what P1 said.
Wouldn’t say managing partners is fun. I did what you said and felt I grew and developed a lot, but not worth from a pure $ perspective (although guess depends on the firm)
Thanks everyone! Yeah the question was additional responsibilities also the upward mobility. Is it real worth it to be managing other partners.
If it builds ur network with top leaders and decision makers than can have benefits to your trajectory- really matters which roles and who values them
