Right before busy season 😁

Ever taken the merry go round? That is when you take a taxi home at 5am, take a shower, change your clothes, then take the same taxi back to the office at 7 or 8am and repeat the previous day.

like

When the right opportunity comes along. I would actively look for job opportunities.

like

For 60k per year starting? No thank you

like

No I'm referring to the merry-go round reference which is FS big4 accounting

like

I've charged 117 client hours once, a week before 9/15. It hurts to even think about that week...

like

I'm not sure how it is at Deloitte, but I know at EY FS tax has multiple busy seasons because they do provisions for audit teams and also returns. I'm not sure when they're not in busy season.

like

Manager level

like

Ahh makes sense. merry go round sounds awful

like

I've seen FS tax working 80+ hour weeks and even more approaching the deadline. It's legit hell on earth.

like

If you stay in FS, the exit opportunities seem to pay more than the typical industry jobs.

like

It's a lot of long hours, especially if you are doing tax compliance with provision review at the same time during busy season...😪😪😪

like

I don't know what city you're in, but hedge funds are always offering me 90-100k+. It's just not something I would ever want to do.

like

What city are you in? And it obviously varies a lot

like

117 hours. Wtf that's like 70% of your weeks hours. Fuck that, only way I'd do that was if I was making investor banking money and even that would be a stretch.

like

I'm in NYC so any info would be much appreciated before I commit to this path

like

Are you not working at Deloitte yet then? Intern who accepted the offer?

like

Honest answer is you work and then you see what your options are after a few years. Manager would be over 100k but who knows what the market will be in 5-6 years

like

Any time is a great time. A lot of people are going straight to banks because the hours and pay, for some, are better. Moving from a big 4 to internal audit is a pretty seamless move.

like

Thanks everyone. How bad is FS tax busy season? I've heard horror stories

I’m a sales engineer in the manufacturing industry working for a small company, who received a job offer from another small company in a different industry within the manufacturing space who really wants me.

My growth has been the following:
Base: 70k
Commission:
FY20: 12k
FY21: 14k
FY22: 18k

The offer:
100k, with $7.5k sign on bonus. I’d be paid hourly with opportunity for OT for the first 3-6 months as inside sales while I learn the product and then transition into outside sales at 120k base

This is my first job in a large corporate company, and I’m trying to gauge how long it normally takes to move from entry level to another internal position in the insurance industry. I have been applying internally for a year now and I am wondering if this is normal or if my company is just slow? I am a top performer, with great metrics, and I have some wonderful connections I’ve made who support me. I just can’t seem to move up. How long did it take you to move up? How many tries did it take?

I would like to end up in a different geography than where these firms are after MBA so which is better for FT recruiting - stronger name or more relevant industry?
