Yeah you click a record button and excel records your actions to be repeated for later use. That’s how macros work in general although they can be modified or written completely in vba.

PowerQuery or record macros. These are strictly for tasks in excel though.

PQ is good if you’re working with the same kind of data set throughout the year. It will remember the steps you used the first time you made the file so all you need to do is load in the new dataset. Recording macros is more if you’re doing the same repetitive tasks within a file and you want them coded to key command.

I wouldn’t say there’s a best, but VBA has amazing support and information for excel if you ever get confused.

Power query.
Office Script in Power Automate. I just drop files into OneDrive Folders and the Script dose the job for me.
I love vBA, it’s not hard to learn and once you get the hang of it, you can leverage it for future tasks and just build on from there. It’s worth the time to learn and once you know it, there is no looking back. I have no technology background.
