You're overstating your value. People leave and the company survives. You need to make decisions based on what's best for you, not because you'll feel bad.
Leave
Run... I'm planning to do so. We were understaffed last busy season. Worked way more hours. Raises sucked, bonuses sucked. 40% of department already left... another 20% activly looking.
I am going through the same thing OP. We are so understaffed and not nearly enough efforts have been made to fill empty positions, and I feel like the partner low key doesn't mind at all because the works still getting done. I want to leave PA regardless, but I am constantly debating between I don't owe these people shit and I don't want to be an asshole.
^^^^^i think you are spot on, partner doesnt care because everything is still being done. Lol I'm definitely certain i need to leave before busy season because of that realization. This is exactly what drives people out of PA. Thanks for that, i agree with all the advice listed but remembering the top doesn't give a shit really pisses me off
This happened in my office over a year ago. Took 4-5 seniors quitting and ACTUALLY BEING TRUTHFUL in their exit interviews, partners giving a shit, and support from firm mgmt to get things to turn around. Now we're overstaffed for busy season 🙌🏼 🙌🏼 (for now)
If you're going to quit, thats fine. You're not doing your friends you left behind any favors by being a puss in your exit interview though.
Things can get better but not of you don't speak up - either once you're left the firm or before you decide to quit. Some managers and partners do care, ya know.
Yeah, whatever... like management does not know that office/department understaffed?
If you(management) do not know/see a problem before exit interviews, maybe you should not be in management.
This sounds like my team. I hope you're not my senior 😱 don't leave me!
Considering leaving but i will screw over entire team if i do. Sometimes i just get so sick of PA, any other place I'd leave no question but hurting people who don't deserve it (and are probably as equally frustrated as I am) isn't something I want to do. Hopefully i get people who were in similar situations to respond
Staff under me have come to me with various issues and I have put myself out there to talk to SMs/partners to help resolve them. Discuss the issue with someone higher up you trust and hope they can help you
Most managers are selfish. That's the truth.
Manager, don't u guys go through training how not to stick your head up your a$$? 😁
Run. Two busy seasons ago, we were severely understaffed due to people leaving, people transferring offices, and people on maternity leave. Anyway, I remember working 12-14 hour weekdays everyday during March and 8-10 hrs on Saturday. It was mentally, physically, and emotionally draining. The worst part was that when it was all done and we had worked our asses off to survive, management couldn't even be bothered to say "thank you".
@Tax Associate 1 - isn't that just a normal busy season though? Be happy it only lasted a month. And forget thank you. I want compensation.
We got a speech from partner regarding opportunities, but I heard same one 2 years ago... I have decided, I'm done. Got 4 month to find something new...
I'll recruit u, if new place has recruitment bonus 😁
I aint even talking about partners 🙃
So why can't you find staff? Why are your people leaving?
PwC2 most of the time both questions, have one answer...
OP, you need to stop being the ice cream 🍦 maker. People are just taking advantage of you, it seems. Loyalty is underrated - people use loyalty to manipulate.
