What is the biggest regret in your life

My first marriage. I can’t say I regret the marriage entirely because we share wonderful kids, but I wish I had been more mature emotionally when we met and been better at establishing healthy communications, which would have either improved the relationship or ended it sooner. The divorce was painful, even though I don’t regret that. Not getting into therapy decades sooner - it would have helped with the above.

Not telling “the one that got away” how strongly I felt about her because I was afraid that she didn’t feel the same…only to find out much later in life, when it was far too late, that she loved me too.

Damn.. this happened to me too, but the person I’m with now is a much better fit. Everything happens for a reason. I hope the same happened/happens for you.

Excessive loyalty to companies that didn’t care about me.

My wife is like that, but I learned my lesson early on. I was asked to stay on at a job when I was leaving by a boss I liked. I stayed and then was laid off 3 months later.

Focusing too much time trying to succeed professionally and missing out on personal opportunities. I swung the pendulum too far in one direction.

Not getting control of my anxiety and fear of failure earlier. Would have helped me walk away from bad jobs and friendships.

Thinking I had to be “professional” at work in my early career and not making friends with colleagues. Now I have next to zero friends (not even sure how to do so now) or professional network (everyone has stronger loyalties than to me) and feel very on my own.

Not coming out sooner. I’m now in my 50s and still haven’t had a relationship because it took so long to become comfortable with myself.

Not going to the Ivy I got into.

For me it’s more that I meet people who went and I can see that their opportunities got them further faster, but I didn’t have any context for that kind of world so it scared me and I didn’t think I’d like it. Since we ended up in the same rooms and I don’t have $1000s in student loans I wouldn’t trade any of my advantages, but it’s the top “what if” scenario. Wow, I think an overseas experience is amazing to have. Especially going to Australia. You didn’t want to stay and work there?

I stayed in a marriage longer than I should have.

Same here. Wasted 10 years in a toxic relationship then 3 years to get over it 🙄

Finding out I'm married to someone who loves my presence but not me, and seeing how kids are not on the agenda and it's way too late on several levels to change paths now.

Did I write this when I wasn’t looking?

I regret who I married, but I also love my kids and would never trade them for anything... so it's complicated. That said, I know I married the wrong person and now feel stuck due to financial considerations and access to the children.

Not joining the military (would have been as an officer- not enlisting).

Focusing too much on “soon as I get that next job” while at every job.

Just a question. For those commenting about a bad marriage, are you male or female?

Wow. I am a male and torn about it. Can’t tell if it’s because she annoys me or because I refuse to change myself 😂😂😂.

Note to removal defense lawyers. Bond approved last Tuesday, one week before today’s merits hearing. Client couldn’t get out of jail because bond payments in central Ohio can only be made on Tuesday and Thursday. Luckily, Judge continued hearing so client can be placed on non-detained docket. Lesson is to know when bond can be paid in your area to try to avoid future problems.

Ladies—I am terrified of flying—particularly the parts where we are not over land and the parts where turbulence is really bad. I literally just sit on the plane, staring at the map on the tv screen, with anxiety. I’m supposed to be flying across the world on a 14-hour non-stop flight in 2 weeks. I grew up moving/traveling and therefore flying a ton but always hated it and was scared. I haven’t been on a plane since September of 2019 (due to covid and moving to the same city as family). Advice?

Potential agency boomerang having a hard time making a decision to stay brand-side or go back. Need some advice! Do I leave the brand, being "the client," fun work, great WLB, as well as the most toxic work environment I've ever experienced and meh pay? Do I go back to agency lead a new team with significant responsibilities, forget about WLB, sell my soul alongside smart people, get great pay and benefits? PS: I'm a mom and brand-side for 5 years. What do I need to know!? Thank you!
