True friends will understand. If they don't understand then you shouldn't be concerned with them. I wouldn't pass up an opportunity that you desire just to work a busy season you don't want to work because you don't want to make the team mad.
Also you're an associate. They'll find a replacement quite quick. It's not like your doing any work that can't easily be replaced by someone else.
the team can lose you even up to manager level mere weeks before year end and still find a replacement.
It's really only an issue at SM and above, which is why they make SM give 3 months notice
Don't leave in January or February. Anything before then is no big deal.
