Good strategy director: provides constructive feedback, challenges your thinking, provides guidance and knowledge of tools/resources that can help you, assigns you new tasks to expand your experience/skills, good energy that you feel good about reaching out for help when needed etc.
Bad strategy director: provides no feedback or says "good job" to anything, doesn't care to share anything with your team, tries to outshine you, is condescending, zero guidance and opportunities, makes you do tedious work over & over again, lazy etc.
I just described my prev director vs my new director. š
My favourite boss of all time made me feel like a champion. She would kick my ass if my work wasnāt good, make it even better if it was good, make sure I always knew she appreciated me, always made time for me, said good things to me to everyone, gave me all her good briefs, didnāt feel remotely threatened if I was right and she was wrong, pushed me, made me a much better person, and when I decided I was ready to see the world, she helped make it happen. God I miss her. The moment I get home, Iām working for her for the rest of my career if I have it my way.
Bad strategy directors are rewriting other peopleās headlines
A good strategy director is intellectually humble, seeks truth wherever it may lead, exemplifies courage and love.
I am trying to find mentors outside of my manager... he gives little guidance and is pretty checked out. I'm just now cutting my teeth as lead planner on a new, very large client. I don't feel I have the support I need to learn quickly enough to succeed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I actually took their boot camp last year. Maybe I should try reaching out to old teachers.
