What is the EASIEST job to exit to? I want to coast and work as little as possible

Someone else in the forum feel free to disagree, but imo once you exit to corporate in basically any group it’s what you make of it. If you want to be a manager at a sleepy F500 and just coast, coming from BCG I guarantee you you’ll be able to work 40 hours and still do more than more of your peers.

Ex-BCGer here, BCG2 is spot on. As long as you don't forget how to "turn it on" again when you run into the occasional crunch time situation, the rest of the time is super manageable compared to even your "easiest" BCG case

Based on responses, I think I found my calling. I almost became a middle school social studies teacher and landed as a tech consultant. I did a PMO stint, and was recently EM/PM certified in the cloud tech I've been working with for 7 years.

So if I understand correctly, just apply the strategies I used on my 8th graders to adults, and actually know who is supposed to do what, and I'm good?

Spot on 😂

Honestly, program manager at a large tech firm. You’re just getting status updates, managing timelines, making status decks, maybe managing budgets, but you’re not really on the hook for anything major.

I almost became a middle school social studies teacher before I became a Workday consultant. I feel like I was born for this.

FANG PMO. 400k to babysit adults.

Can confirm. FAANG PgM now 250K and today the only thing I did was check my email and then walked my dog and napped.

I left consulting for Amazon and work 4-5 hours a day, it’s so easy. I take naps and go to the gym, no joke.

How do you become a program manager? Does it require technical skills? Thanks’

I am 100% serious, for the record

You are brilliant lol. We work way too much in consulting...so sick of the 80 hr work weeks

Refreshing to see OP saying this being BCG’er. Most mbb folks just must go through that torturing 190 hours weeks as badge of honor to prove their self worth. Glad there’s still normal folks there!

Erroneous! 😂

Tech PMO. Seriously no skill, and great $$$. Babysitters and cat herders.

Thanks! I thought project management is hard.

Find a nice GS-14 role somewhere

I was in DoD for 8 years and my god you can go sit in a corner and collect $110k for like 20 years and never actually do anything. Such an enormous amount of waste, DoD is quite literally unauditable.

Probably director. The more money you make, the less work you do

like

Directors and partners at service firms are like contractors that take a cut from workers.

When some poor Analyst at Deloitte is complaining about tech implementation PMO, read this thread. The money will come apparently 😂

I work for a tech company in a product management role and work 25 hours a week but the 25 hours I work are interesting to me and not mindless busy work

So is the Data Analyst Consultant title outdated?

Federal consulting

I was federal staff aug for a while. It can get painfully boring and contract companies typically have incredibly narrow or non-existent career paths. You’ll probably make the same salary and have the same job title five years from now as well. Promotions aren’t really a ‘thing’ in a lot of those companies, you’re a body at the client site and that’s about it.

An individual contributor role in your area of expertise in industry. I work about 25-30 hours a week, don’t have a team or budget or really anything to manage, I’m not accountable for something. Life has been great.
