In 6th, we go to a 2 day/overnight science camp in the pines north of Phoenix.
We have also been to the Renaissance Festival.
In 4th (state history taught), they go to the state capital museum
In 2nd Butterfly Wonderland; they study and release butterflies.
Not the ZOO lol. An aquarium is cool- I’ve done that. The zoo is always a nightmare! Haha
Unless it’s a petting zoo! That was actually really good because they were all contained and together. But you can’t take too many kids with you to do that ...
Best ever was when I taught 5th grade and we took the kids on a 3 day trip to camp. It’s a YMCA camp only about a half an hour away. For many students, it’s their first time sleeping away from home. For all of them, it is an amazing experience that encourages independence, builds confidence, and exposes them to things they’ve never experienced and probably never will because of their family lives. Those memories last a lifetime for them (and their teachers).
My third graders love the national zoo, the planetarium, or really any DC museums. One time for economics, we went to Costco and they LOVED that! Costco really went all out in terms of food and freebie for us!
Ayyyy! That sounds awesome! DC museums are the best!
The Kinder to 3rd grade teachers took the students to the zoo this year. It is helpful if you have parent volunteers and you have more than one class going. We also made a behavior requirement contract for parents and students to sign. This way if they didn’t meet the requirements they were not allowed to go.

Natural History Museum! The one in Michigan offers scholarships and lots of varied programming depending on classroom needs. All grade levels.
Wisconsin teachers...is MacKenzie Center still a thing? I know Old World Wisconsin has changed (I used to be a tour guide in costume there!) but is it still a site? Those were two I still remember from school over 25 years ago!
I grew up in Green Bay and then went to college in La Crosse. Now I’m right back here in Ashwaubenon (Green Bay) 😂
Loved taking my 7/8th civics classes to the state capital and the history museum. Usually was able to get the Senator and Representative to come in for a quick “hello” and picture
a walking tour of a neighborhood’s murals! this would require some research on your part and just make sure that you map out your route! i’ve also assigned students different murals that they then had to present on the field trip
This is good! My school is three blocks from the famous Biggie Small’s mural in BK. O need to take them there during our hip hop unit!
I’m all for a trip to the local library. Teaching in NYC it’s such a great resource and too often students don’t go after a certain age
