Why bcg over mck
Moved to McK bc BCG was not for me. The culture and the people (NY office and partners) basically showed 0 regards for me as a person. So decided to leave… no regrets and much happier at McK

Yeah the groups I worked with in NY were terrible in my experience too

It’s pretty similar, though people do move for commercial (eg the practice they specialize in isn’t selling well) or cultural( eg the person they have to work with is intolerable) reasons
May make more or less sense depending on practice area and geography. E.g.: moving from Bain to McK/BCG in MENA because the latter 2 do more public sector work and have deeper, long-running connections with regional clients makes sense.
I saw a McK partner lateral to BCG while I was there several years ago. He’s still at BCG, so I presume it worked out for him.

Seen the other way too…think CTLed 😂.

Not many people have done it because it often doesn’t make sense as a move. There are of course exceptions like moving to switch office locations.
You can definitely do it.
Unless you have a valid reason (many listed above) the firms are very similar and moving makes it look like you weren’t performing and are looking for a reset. Kind of like moving from PwC to EY or Deloitte. Doesn’t really make sense.
In emerging markets where McK tends to be stronger, Bain & BCG poach heavily from McK (strongest performers tend to stay in McK, but many leave to BB and have great careers)
