I've worked at the same engineering firm for 4 years. I'm currently making $161k with only a $750 bonus, but excellent vacation (4 weeks, cash out anytime, rolls over indefinitely), 45 hours a week. I have an interview with a recruiter at Guidehouse this week for a Technical Project Manager role. It seems to be focused in the government space and requires a security clearance. What sort of salary and benefits could I expect for this sort of role at Guidehouse?

Also, develop a habit of proofreading everything and (when it’s really important) trading proofing favors with others. It’s hard to see your own typos
Print it out and read through it. You’d be surprised how much you catch when looking at a paper copy. (I’m aware this is not the green option, and I don’t care)
Yes! I second this, helps focus your mind (not on chat, and the computer w email blasting away) and helps me catch errors.
Read it out loud. That’s how I catch my mistakes.

At the risk of over simplifying: re-read everything, which means you have given yourself enough time to review slowly. All my small errors are because I rush. I would be less concerned about emails than deliverables.

If you want to be an accurate typer, I love those silly typing games, like TypeRacer or Typer Shark

Try it out. It’s worth paying your own $ for. It will catch your mistakes (missing words, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, etc). It is waaaay better than the built in Microsoft tools.
I don’t send out communications without running it through (plugs into all MS apps)
A second set of “clear” eyes will catch typos, missing words, etc. If you’re making grammatical errors, find someone who’s a really good writer to do that proofreading. Even professional writers have editors.
Peer review is everything!
