What is the most marketable practice area for someone who wants to go in-house? Does it depend on the company you want to go in-house at?

Transactional is the most marketable, followed by employment. There are certainly positions looking for former litigators, but they are more scarce and usually require a lot more experience.

And yes, it depends entirely on the company as to what they are looking for in their legal department.

Be a contracts nerd. No matter the size of the company, having the ability to understand agreements of all kinds is something that is both underrated, but something really difficult to find yet also in demand.

Contracting for sure. It's the bread and butter of in house life. It's probably about half of what an in house legal team does, and it's the easiest way for them to justify adding headcount (since supporting the sales or acquisitions org is basically the only thing we do that actually generates revenue; everything else is just a cost center).

Lots of places have in house employment lawyers.

I hear about wedding planners helping with the timeline of planning a wedding and assisting in things. But I don’t want to make decisions. I’ve never been to an ugly wedding and after discussing my vision and vibe I trust a professional to do it. Maybe give me two options and I’ll pick one here and there. Is this possible? Do wedding planners do this? I’m really not interested in doing the planning - I’m an over thinker and feel planning a wedding will kill me lol.

Now I’m wondering how much praise I’ve given students, juniors, colleagues using “articulate”

I am looking to leave my very small law firm firm and considering going to a much larger firm. I have some clients that were brought in by other partners but I am deeply entrenched in their work. It would not be easy for another lawyer to get up to speed, but the client contact is technically with another lawyer and I am working with that lawyer also on the file. I also have one client where we could really use some more bodies on the file. More in comments.
