What is the potential to switch service lines once you're at McKinsey? Can you go from mfg to product dev or even over to strategy?

It's been 3-4 months since I have been trying to get into a Product Owner/Manager role externally. It seems like everyone wants you to have all the experience before hand without leaving any scope for growth.

Can anyone give me any tips on how to deal with this? I am a Senior Business Analyst and have brilliant experience with good clients to demonstrate my work and abilities.

Is it common at McKinsey for partners to be heavily involved in projects? I work in industry and I’m on a project now where a Senior Partner and Partner are on most our calls and seem very involved in delivery. The EM takes point on the deck but less on client relationships. I used to work at Big 4 and honestly our partners were rarely involved.

I’m curious… at MBBs, what would you guess is the % of folks who leave (due to WLB, etc.) and get “asked to leave”? I imagine it’s different after the EM/PL level but curious to see what it’s like on the other side. (Difference with Big 4 is that you have a bunch of folks who just well… stick around at their level well past their due date.)
