We don’t have that issue at A&M as everyone is on the same variable compensation model for their bonuses - and the salary component is the same for everyone at each level.

The external hires that get this bump will likely get a lower raise the following year. I’ve seen this happen to multiple people in different service lines.
You still come out ahead though because you make more total comp over the same years. Basic example, internal hire might make $200 over two years with $90k the first year and $110k the next. But an external hire might make $210k over the same two years, with $100k first year and $110k the next.
Don’t ever expect things to normalize without advocating for yourself. Life and comp ain’t fair and they never will be.
Isn't that always the case? External hires get a premium, but they will get no or minimal raises until homegrowns caught up.
