Mostly overcompensating tools. It’s one thing to zealously advocate in a brief, hearing, or argument, especially when the client is present, and some clients don’t like the idea of their attorneys beings “friends” with opposing counsel (which is idiotic because it makes the litigation way more expensive), but all of the best litigators I ever observed or went against had a “leave it on the field” mentality and otherwise were friendly.
