D folks: when getting a promo, are there two separate raise percentages, one for the promo and one for performance/merit, or is it just one percentage?

So definitely made it to SA got a 8% raise.. but this is funny, one of my colleague who is an analyst and joined with me and is in the same TDP group got a higher % raise than me w/o the level raise..

Is it possible to raise a family if both parents are in Consulting? I feel our industry does not really support the idea of raising kids while working. This gets more difficult if both parents are in consulting (60+ hours per week, travel, constant pressure to move up, Sales targets, etc.) thoughts? I just need to get this off my chest. I went from insurance defense to workers comp because I like that side of the v. and I thought it would lead to a decent pay raise.
