The older I get, the harder it is for me to have the mental capacity to text people back. I’m early into my career, thinking of leaving a midsize med mal firm to open a solo practice in business law but don’t have a ton experience in that area. Is this insane?

What would you do? Worked at a small family law firm for 8 months. Hated the work and I didn’t get trained at all. I was poached by an immigration firm (I never wanted to do immigration but needed a way out). Fast forward 4 months, I love immigration but HATE the toxic work environment. I feel like a failure for ending up in another situation that’s not good for my mental health, which sucks because I really really love the work. Am I being too ambitious for wanting to go solo in one year?

Looking for tips to help generate my own client base when I work in a rural area for a firm where the only lawyers are myself and my boss. I’m a relatively new lawyer and with his name on the door it makes it hard to get new clients because everyone wants to deal with the name partner. I’m a GP with bulk of my work being real estate, wills, estate admin and civil litigation. I also have a big interest in agricultural law and contract drafting.

I’m a 4 year attorney working in a small boutique firm doing immigration and PI litigation. My salary is fixed with no commission. Thinking of negotiating about commission but not sure what percentage is reasonable. The partners once mentioned they want to make me a “junior partner.” We didn’t go into details but I think they want me to also put money in and take cuts. I’m wondering about the reasonable ratio of investment and cuts. Your thoughts are very much appreciated!
