What is the worst habit you had when you were younger/starting out that you have managed to kick? I used to say um a lottt, and it was nice when someone brought it to my attention but took ages to get over.

Using weak words - constant battle.
Examples: kinda, like, basically, things, really, stuff, “try to”, “I wanted to check”

This was so me. Actually "so" is also a weak word...

I used to move my leg a lot, twitching and such, and one time it was moving the table during a huge meeting with executives, and someone called it out and since then I somehow managed to kick it.

Showing anger when people say stupid things. I used to roll my eyes a lot or just shut people down verbally. It took a lot of coaching from mentors to quell those types of actions.

The right culture will reward staff who deliver honest assessments as long as it’s delivered professionally. An additional point that I think is important, though - I welcome the same honest feedback I give out. I am 100% open to suggestions or correction when I’m wrong and don’t get emotional about it, which is something that came with maturity and confidence in my abilities. Developing credibility as an expert in whatever you do affords you the room to professionally critique others but also comes with the obligation to hear where you can improve yourself.

Thanks!

I’m transitioning into a role where I’ll be more hands on in production. Previously, the producers handled the budget, contracts etc. I haven’t done this in a long while so I hope I could get some answers here to be more prepared

This is a much smaller company so I imagine I’ll have to take on some of that eventually.

How do you deal with managers or directors younger than you who don’t have strong leadership qualities due to lack of experience? I’m in my mid-thirties and the director of product is mid-twenties. They rose through the ranks as the startup grew so they really know the product and company but they don’t have a lot of experience managing a team. It’s frustrating to have someone lead without having the skills to lead or the insight to give industry or career advice. How have others handled it?

Looking for advice, is it a bad idea to take a chance on an early stage startup (20 FTEs) in our current economy or go for it? I'm currently interviewing for a head of product role, and really torn about the timing.

Added context, they raised about $4M in seed funding and the founders say they're overcommitted for their series A which is currently being closed. I've been in product for 7 years, definitely feel equipped to do the job, but would like to stay at least 1.5-2 years if I do this.
