Started at a new firm a recently. I’m a little anxious about my growth opportunities. I’ve been working and billing like crazy, but the firm essentially charges insurance rates - but also are really conservative about billing and cut my hours a lot. It seems they’re really happy with my work. They’ve brought up the issue of my time and said I should be able to capture my time as long as I break the entries up more. But I think they’re still cutting it. I’m worried I won’t justify my pay goals..

Anyone in house at a hospital or academic health center? If so can you shed some light on work load, the main pressures of the job, your level of satisfaction and long term outlook?

I work in insurance defense and there seems to be a thought or attitude amongst many plaintiffs lawyers that all insurance defense lawyers have “sold out” or have somehow lost their souls and are now working for the bad guys. I view my job as resolving claims. Sometimes this means settlement, motion practice, and more rarely trial. I hold no animosity towards the plaintiffs bar. Without them, we’d not have jobs. What are your thoughts? Are plaintiffs lawyers justified in their beliefs?

It was a rough year, so I want to create a spot for us to all to share something we feel good about. This can be something like- I’m proud that despite shitty mental health I made it this far, or that I got into origami and now my ceiling is full of paper cranes, or really anything else!!!

Is anyone experiencing a loss of staff because of the mental toll of this pandemic (parents and people to be everything to everyone while still maintaining work?) Even with company mental health programs, were struggling to keep staff (lots of HR issues).

I have a BS in Kinesiology and an MBA in Healthcare Administration and have worked in neuro clinical testing for 17 years. I’m looking for a direction to be pointed in for a career change, ideally something that can be done remotely and doesn’t require a ton of other specialized training. Coming up short on my own searches. Any suggestions?

PSA: I had a horrible experience applying for a job at Devoted Health. Applied online and then got asked to schedule a phone interview. On the day of the interview, I waited 20 min and nothing happened. I emailed the HR rep, he didn’t acknowledge or apologize and just told me to reschedule so I did. I even sent a separate email to confirm the second phone call. Second day of the interview, same thing, no show. I sent an email letting him know that my time is not being valued. (Cont’d)

Now that I’m happ(ier)[still in my learning curve!], have switched lanes and am making a plentiful salary—due to the confidence boost from this site, my S.O. is now exhibiting the same “symptoms” as I was while I was with my former employer (I was formally state government & fed up—not even miserable).

My SO is an attorney of 8 years. First seven was healthcare/medical malpractice sort of stuff. Towards the end, HE HATED IT. LOATHED IT. This was also when COVID hit. He hated it SO MUCH
