Hello h1b 🐠, had a question around working remotely. I’m travelling around thanksgiving and planing to work remotely for a couple of days from my vacation site. Besides timesheet, are there any rules I need to be aware of (lca, hr policies etc?) any / all inputs are appreciated!

Are there any firms out there that actually let you take all your PTO? I hate that we have to make up our PTO to meet utilization targets. Been on a capped 40-hour project for the last two years and it’s had a terrible effect on my utilization.

Plus, any firms that don’t require more working for free (like all of our BS firm contributions here at D)?

Any advice for approaching a maternity leave conversation when my company has no policy, no HR dept and I have no contract? I’m a partner shareholder in my company (we’re not in the US), 19 wks pregnant. I know the time off and pay I’d like to negotiate, but my partners are male and weird about money. I’m underpaid in a very senior 6 yr position, my job is stressful and around the clock, so I want proper leave. I can’t afford childcare and our govt stat leave is terrible, it won’t pay my bills.

Could someone explain the difference between a firm policy that sets a specific amount of paid vacation time for associates versus a firm policy that has unlimited vacation time? Specifically with respect to how this impacts billable requirements. Thank you!

Tell me if this is selfish or not. I adore my family, but since they're doing a very lowkey Christmas situation this year, I really would rather take a weeks vacation on my own. Obviously the holidays are about spending time with those you love, but I'm tired! And I see my entire family at least once a month for a group dinner. Am I a bad daughter/sister if I choose vacation this one time?

I received an offer for Home Depot. It’s a contract to hire role, so I’ll convert after 6 months. But as a contractor you get paid hourly, so I’m not sure if I’m doing the math right for the annual amount. I did 40hrs/week x 52 weeks x $45….Do I get paid for holidays and PTO?

I’ve been in my current role for almost 4 years. While I am generally happy, & have flexibility with time off for personal matters, there are things that bother me. I have an offer for way more money, manager title (which I want), much larger bonus & IVF benefit is better. However, I’m in the middle of stims and it is STRESSFUL. Part of me can’t imagine taking on a new role while I’m in the middle of this. But also feel like I can’t pass it up
