If able, you should max your contributions up to the limit ($19,500). The company match can exceed that number, that is the most you are personally able to contribute

How can company match exceed that?

You should max our your IRA as well if you can

Should I be maxing my 401-k prior to buying ETFs? What if I don’t make it to retirement age lmao. With climate change that’s looking more and more likely and I don’t want to have all this money tied up I might never get to use

I do all Roth because tax saving later is more important than now.

Heck no. It’s going to be way higher. Either bc the country raises all taxes, or bc I’m getting so much from my investments. I want that tax free growth and tax free withdrawal. My employer’s contribution is Traditional, so I still have a bit of both.

Serious question, how does anyone save enough to retire? Does anyone here have plans to retire early and how are you doing it? Is it doable alone without an S/O?

Has anyone had cosmetic surgery and had their firm approve FMLA leave? I’m afraid my leave will be denied bc it is an elective procedure. The only reason I really care is bc my hours will be prorated for the 2 wks I’m taking off, and it is a 6 hr procedure with intense recovery. Just wondering if anyone had any experience with how firms view this type of request for billing attorneys and if the firm (as opposed to third party benefits admin) makes the final decision? FWIW, I’m at a big firm.

Apologies if this is a silly question - New analyst here and trying to get a handle on my finances and retirement portfolio. I’m familiar with the rough sequence of saving being: 3-6 months HYSA, Company match 401k, Roth IRA, HSA, 401k max, personal brokerage (Pls correct me if i’m incorrect here). My question is: Are you expected to invest as much money as you can into each step before proceeding to the next, or do you allocate a portion of your paycheck to each of these steps simultaneously?

I am about to return to work after maternity leave. I have a 4 month old and a two year old. Our daycare is periodically closing due to COVID. We don’t have family nearby to help when daycare closes and I’ll be headed into busy season upon my return. I’m already on a reduced schedule. No one else I know is in my shoes in my group/office at EY. How have your families in similar situations dealt with this? I feel like I’ll be very unreliable as we head into the busy season.
