What is your backup plan incase you and your partner (if you have one) get laid off? Specifically curious about how you would handle housing and income.

6 month emergency fund so we can maintain or just slightly decrease our lifestyle while searching for work.

like

6 months might not be long enough to find the perfect job but I think it’s long enough to find a decent one to hold me over for a year or however long the recession would last (working in cloud). I have heard 9-12 months as well but it depends on your risk tolerance.

I have enough of an emergency fund to last a solid year with minimal lifestyle adjustment.

We have a years worth in cash (saving for a house)and have plenty of stock we could begin to liquidate if needed. Would reduce our spending habits dramatically and consider leaving NYC for the short term (I can work remote) for lower cost of living if needed.

Currently I work for a mid-sized InsureTech that’s had 2 rounds of layoffs in the past 6 months. Salary is 100k, with no defined bonus. I have close to 4 years of PO experience. I am debating whether I want to leave since my boss is very chill and I have amazing WLB. Benefits are eh. 15 PTO days and healthcare premiums are okay. Should I jump ship? What could I be making at a bigger company? What types of companies are most stable right now?

Laid off after Thanksgiving. 54. Not done yet. Plenty to offer. In Detroit but ready and able to move anywhere. AD/CD. Hangin in there. How bout you?

While negotiating the offer the recruiter came back to me and said "We’re working through headcount planning right now. The position you applied to is closed". Looks like a hiring freeze. Does this mean layoffs are coming up? What about the candidates (like myself) who cleared HC and was in negotiating process?

Still looking for work 2 1/2 years later. I was laid off when Covid hit as a Director of food and beverage in West Hollywood /Beverly Hills, relocated to Omaha Nebraska with the same organization to open a property. Laid off after the opening. I’ve been doing Task Force work since. Looking at vice president or Director roles hotels/restaurant companies! I have applied everywhere, nothing but ghosting treated disrespectfully, offered horrible salaries or told positions on hold. Need a Job

Lots of talk about inflation, layoffs, hiring freezes, pay cuts, and stressful job shifts lately. Does anyone have any advice or encouragement to share for those who have been impacted or fear that they will be soon?

I’ve got a really good job. Wasn’t looking to move but a big 4 consulting firm reached out. I received a very generous/life changing offer. I’m so worried about work/life balance if I take this offer. Also worried about layoffs in a year or two when the market gets back to normal. I’ve got an infant and a 5 year old. I know that I can manage my current workload. I don’t want to pass up a great opportunity but I’ve got to be available for my family too!

Need some advise. I am fairly young/junior in the industry and was included in COVID layoffs. While searching for new positions I worry about moving to a less prestigious agency and stunting my career or not being able to find work at all. I am leveraging connections that I can but am feeling really overwhelmed with this transition. Any tips?

I've changed jobs every year for the past 5 years, within the same field; I haven't worked at a place I would consider spending a long time at. Have you ever had a recruiter call, and ask you all these questions like a half interview even. And then go ahead and make a post of all the things you said you work on, the requested salary and benefits and also specific details about location and type of profile i was looking for? The linkdin post was made like an hour after the call. Like it was freakishly matching.

Landed a job in NYC. As much as I want to live there and will be moving in with my partner I think the most financially savvy option is to live in Jersey city to save on the city tax. Both our salaries would definitely go up next year so moving to the city would be a huge possibility in 2022. Has anyone else started our in Jersey city first ? Is it worth it or should I just try to make it work in NYC ?
