In Germany we dont have individual policies since the topic is covered by law: - Women stop working 6 weeks before the planed birth. From that time until 6 weeks after birth they get paid 100% - We have 14 months of „parent time“ per couple. You can split it between the two of you, thought the minimum one can take is 2 month. Usually dads take two months and moms 12. During the 14 months you receive Around 70% of your salary though it is capped at some point. - If you need to stay longer with your kid and dont have financiall stress (if your partner makes enough) you can take 2 years of parent time. During that time you ll receive only half of the 70% of your salary. - If that still aint enough you can actually take up to 3 years parent time. You wont receive nothing during the 3rd year but if its necessary and you are financially set then you are covered here as well. In case you wonder why the hell one needs 3 years: My sister for example had to stay 3 years with her son because he developed baby-athsma and needed constant supervision. - Your Salary after that time is safe and you are protected by law. Nobody can fire you, no matter the circumstances. You see I wrote salary and not job, because the companies after a certain time arent required to give you the exact position back (especially if you stay longer and hold a very strategic and important position that has to be filled asap), but they are required to pay you the same salary. I have seen VPs doing some secretary job making 250k a year just for a few months until there was another VP position available. He seemed to enjoy it😅 Just a few years ago Germany used to be the babies-poorest country on Earth. Hence these incentives from the government to motivate people to have kids. Our women are educated, hot, make good money, and I cant blame them at all if they rather want to get piped down every summer in Ibiza or Croatia, instead of growing kids. This was written by a male, if it matters😂

What if it’s been less than a year ?

I am really starting to lose my patience with the WFH conversation. I understand that some roles can be completely executed at home, but our office manager just complained that 3 days per week starting in September is too much for them. Their entire job is based around our physical space but all these NYT op-eds about how WFH is the only way has sparked entitlement.

Any tips for building a client base from scratch? I’m a 4th year associate at a firm of 12 attorneys. I practice in business, compliance, and real estate (primarily on partners’ files) and don’t litigate. Most of the partners’ clients are wealthy friends or friends of friends (not my circle). Associates are not referred business, even cold calls, and so far “networking” events like Chamber of Commerce luncheons have been a bust. I equate a book to autonomy and career choice and pressure is on.

Thoughts on 401k allocation at 26? Considered just doing all SP500 but kinda want more diversification. Small cap seems to have a very high expense ratio (0.82%); is it still a generally good play? Also mid cap performance seems meh compared to SP500... 60% FXAIX (SP500) 20% FSMAX (mid cap) 10% QUAZX (small cap) 10% FSPSX (international)

So...I recently started a new position (within the past year). While I like the practice area, I'm not a huge fan of the type of work I'm doing. I'm a new lawyer. I had planned to stay in this position for years, but I've learned there is very little chance that I will get to do any litigation. Most of the attorneys at my job were previously trial attorneys and they took this position for the slower pace and regular hours. I'm worried about moving on too quickly. Thoughts?
