Dropping $4k on surgery for my dog because she ate a strange object she found outside and it caused a blockage in her stomach. The lady at the emergency vet kept talking about various payment plans or shopping around with other vets if it was too expensive and it made me realize how fortunate I am to be able to spend that much on my dog and not have to worry about it at all.

Yeah A36 it is totally worth it. On more than one occasion I’ve needed very expensive treatment for an animal that would have otherwise been insanely expensive without insurance.
Cat needed PU surgery and extensive lab work. Cost about 12k. I paid $1200.
Another cat had hemolytic anemia and required oral steroids and insulin for years. A monthly RX payment of $600 was only $60.
A dog developed bloat. An urgent life saving surgery would have cost $7000 and cost me $700.
Things happen to animals and they need medical care. The routine stuff doesn’t cost that much anyway. The only exception is dental cleanings and those should not be done often anyway given the risks of frequent sedation.
And most policies lock your premium in, so it’s best to purchase when the animal is young and the rates are lower.
I’m raising my sisters 3 kids bc she is 100% worthless- probably need to save for a trust fund for each of them too bc they’re all in HS and all think they will be TikTok millionaires

My father was a big law M&A partner (now a GC) and I just want to prove I’m as smart as he is. It’s sick.

I don’t want to start over at a new job and have to rebuild the social capital I’ve built at my current firm.

Agreed, everyone is so eager to lateral but I don’t want to navigate new politics or be a star associate to rebuild a reputation when I’m loved where I am

Waiting to hit a certain market senior associate bonus payout so it will pay for us to quit & travel for a gap year ✈️
A7, definitely doable and you do you, but personally am waiting until I’m a senior to do it. I think job prospects will be better if you’re older - your firm is more likely to take you back bc you’ll have a lot of substantive knowledge at that point and can run deals and, if in house is your route, you’ll have a more refined skill set to sell given your years in BL being trained in your practice. It’s generally tougher to move in house as a junior to begin with and then adding in a year off to travel probably won’t help.
