Just curious, what percentage of your billable rate do you take home? Calculation would be ((Salary and Bonus/Yearly Billable Hours)/Billable Rate). For me it's about 18% as a Senior 1 in M&A Tax (note this doesn't include other benefits).
Does anyone else find it ridiculous that firms require a minimum daily time entry? For example, my firm requires us to bill 6 hours a day, whether or not it’s billable work, we have to have a minimum of 6.0 in our time entry system every day or we get flagged. If we’re on vacation we have to pre-bill 6.0 a day. Why the hell do firms do this???
Opinions? Management now requiring everyone to have 45 billable hrs per week, not including mandatory concepting n pitch work. Most people participating in 2-3 initiatives at same time. Is this normal
Hey folks! Hope everyone is safe and sound. Who is working on billable work and who is on the bench ?
Advice for young attorneys dealing with non-billable workload? I’m still my first two months at my firm but a ton of the work I’m being assigned is non-billable. I understand if I’m not still fully on boarded but how are we supposed to keep up billables while being given time consuming non billable work?
So EY Advisory, Deloitte Advisory, Grant Thornton, etc have recently mandated 45 billable hours/wk, up from 40. Clearly this isn't firm-specific. Anyone have any insights on what's really going on?
Laughing in billable hours
At my new job, we’re told to get 8 billable hours of work a day on our timesheet. Even when I thought I had a lot to work on, the most I could get was 5 hours. I’m super stressed about getting in trouble, even though I have actively asked for more work. I was unemployed for 9 months during this pandemic and I now I’m super afraid of losing my job again. Is this a normal practice? Idk how I’ll ever consistently have that much work.
Just need to rant: super annoyed with the whole “utilization and billable hours.” We have FTO, which I love but the utilization takes away from it. For 2 weeks I barely was able to make 30 hours, which is awesome because I wasn’t stressed. But my utilization has now dropped, so I have to work extra to “make it up” if I want to take vacations and actually use the holidays the firm has given. GT has like 11 days off for for the holidays/NYE and I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to take that
Most billable hours in a day (within 24 hours)? Mine has been 20 and I’ve hit that 2x this year.
Does Big4 really work more than mid tier when it comes to audit or is the busy season just condensed? Currently on pace for 1700 billable hours. Is that average?
If a CD assigns more creatives to a project than there are budgeted billable hours, is that squarely on him/her or is Account also culpable?
Has anyone gone into compliance for a state university & hospital? As counsel or a compliance officer? Looking for insight how this compares to firm lifestyle & billable hours.
How many billable hours should I be hitting with a motion for summary judgement oral argument prep? I’m an associate starting my second year practicing law. Any advice for oral argument? I am very familiar w/ the facts. But the partner just told me to handle it. It’s pretty much a straight negligence premises liability case. Any insight would help

Would you accept capping billable hours at 40/week in exchange for being able to work while completely remote?

I’ll be short of RSM’s billable hours goal of 1600 by around 300 hours by the end of fiscal year end. How fucked am I?
Someone tested positive for COVID-19 in my office today. They’re only shutting the office down for one afternoon for “deep cleaning” and not requiring any self isolation. Is this normal? Has anyone had a similar experience?
Is the interview process to get into IBD harder or easier than top consulting firms like BCG/McKinsey/Bain? Where do the truly smart people work nowadays?
Going to grow out my hair super long till end of next year for Covid-19, probably only cutting it after I go back to the office. I reduce risk by not getting a haircut, I get to put it in a bun and keep it away from heat and I'll be donating the 12 inches of growth to cancer wigs. Convinced my hubby to do the same, man bun style. Who's with me?
Should I refinance my mortgage if I’m concerned I might be laid off? I know the loan wouldn’t close if I’m laid off before signing, but asking from future forbearance perspective. Would the new lender not grant forbearance/hardship on a brand new loan if I need to request it shortly after closing? Are there typically payment history requirements that would make a new loan ineligible?
Felling a little conflicted: I have an interview to exit consulting into industry. They are offering a 50% increase in salary, no travel. On the other hand, I love my current team and client but...

Is it worth joining MBB firm? How does it impact your long term growth? Recently promoted to senior manager in tech consulting space and I am considering to take a paycut (about 50k) to join Mckinsey at post MBA consultant level. I want to hear feedback from MBB fish here. Most of my friends think it's a bad move..
Do recruiters tend to ghost candidates a lot in the consulting industry? I've had 2 recruiters in the past week from top 4 firms approach me and cancel the initial interview a day prior and never reach out again.
Thoughts on exiting to a $200M company (top line), reporting to the CEO & COO... director strategic initiatives.. pay is similar to MBB Manager comp. can you ever go back to large F50 if you take these roles ?
What are the actual benefits of marriage?
