What is your New York experience?

I grew up in East Harlem, the only surviving child of immigrant parents. My parents worked four jobs while sending themselves back to school. Always telling me that the greatest thing you could have was a strong education. At age 9, I worked in a bodega stocking shelves to help put food on the table. Eventually my parents became doctors and we moved to their dream apartment in Carnegie Hill. We previously were sharing a studio, the three of us. My mother wept when we moved.m; she was finally seeing a better life for us. The next time I would see her weep would be when I graduate with my MBA. This week I’m going to surprise them; I bought the apartment next door to them and wrote a check to finish off my fathers medical school loans. I love New York and I love this beautiful country.

Someone interview this person to Humans of NY

My New York experience is sitting on the pier enjoying a breathtaking view of the Brooklyn bridge while my talented girlfriend takes my picture. When a wonderful person comes into view with a large speaker in tow, blasting their music for everyone to hear. After having moved to a quieter location, a wonderful group comes along with ANOTHER large speaker to share music. The first person wasn't having that, so she resorted to turning her music up to drown out the noise. When that didn't work, she went to confront the group to audaciously tell them that their music was TOO LOUD. As they were arguing about who's music should be playing, A THIRD person bikes between the two arguing with a THIRD large speaker playing a THIRD obnoxious song. I wouldn't spend my after work Monday any other way.

As a teenager, I botched an attempt to evade the fare as my feet tripped up in the turnstile. I didn’t get enough elevation while hopping. Everyone laughed, including the clerk in the token booth, and the undercover cop lingering by the side told me to “just go ‘head, man.”

My New York City experience is when I’m traveling through different neighborhoods, you meet people with very different personalities. I sometimes work with my brother as a plumber on the weekends, so we’re always out and about around nyc. It’s everyone from business owners to family homes. No matter how much money someone makes or how fancy or not where they live, we all just trying to get by, regardless of how one turn around the corner and it feels like you’re in a different world. It definitely is a whole experience you miss out on while wfh. I consider it like everyone has their own hustle, and their own way of going about their business

I grew up here so I can't really comprehend what a New York experience is. It's just part of my existence.

My New York experience is walking into an absolutely fantastic low key jazz speak easy, vibe is excellent, the drinks are flowing, and the musicians are going at it. But half the room was under one party, and they constantly spoke over the music, clearly because this venue was the perfect occasion for their incredibly important discussion. One of them though was appreciative of the musicians, so appreciative in fact, they took the liberty of getting right up in the bands face the whole time to record with his shitty phone. Good times

Tomi Jazz… hope they have re-opened

I binge dated for a month, went on 30+ dates and found my SO (now of 3 years). Actually really enjoyed it, met mostly nice people with something interesting to talk about, incl. lawyers, engineers, entrepreneurs, an ex-con, consultants, finance bros, doctors, an Olympic medalist. Where else could you find such diversity!

Today, I was coming back from a run when I noticed a lady with a stroller trip and fall. Luckily, the stroller was empty. Me and another bystander stopped to help her up and some of her belongings that had fallen. As we were asking if she wanted to sit down for a second, another bystander walking his dog came over to help and tripped on a stair, falling to the ground. In all the excitement, we couldn’t help the man that fell. I saw him limping after the lady walked away and asked if he was okay. Poor dude sprained his ankle and was probably hurt worse than the lady. 😹If you’re not laughing by now, please go for it. While I feel bad for both people, the situation was like an SNL skit. Lol. Wishing them both speedy recoveries!

Is it just me, or is the big 4 sales culture low energy? I get the RFP process is painful, having done it in other industries myself, but the way I've seen most people sell in these firms seems mediocre for the amount of support that gets thrown at these opportunities. Maybe it's the ex-finance consultant in me, but the approaches I've seen in my 5 year tenure so far have me thinking this isn't catering to my strengths and won't be the best move to stick it out to SM/PPMD.
