What is your opinion on a company allowing you to sell back unused vacation time? A recruiter is trying to sell it as a benefit to boost the salary number.

I thought so too. I didn’t really know how to respond

“As an added bonus to you, we’re going to give you the option of having time to yourself where we pay you or extra time neglecting yourself and we pay you!” To quote that Star Wars admiral, IT’S A TRAP!!

Think about it. US already has lowest vacation time policies. Use it or lose it exists to remind you, FORCE YOU, to try and maintain a healthy balance.

Even if this was not a red flag, it would not be any kind of benefit to me. I'm going to take my vacation time. I need that time to get the hell away from the stress of work and recharge. You want to sell me on a job? Give me more PTO or even unlimited. That would have me signing on much quicker.

I'd take it, we get 4 weeks, some years I'd sell back 1 week to pay for a nicer vacation

That’s a good way of looking at it too

That is a great perk. My dad worked for Shell Oil Company and they did this. He loved it. You could roll over a certain amount each year also. When you maxed that you could sell back the time, sell it to other employees, or use it. Think of it as an option, and options have value.

A lot of companies do this nowadays, its not a big selling point for me. It is still taxed as regular income. I rather take that time off. If you are not too keen on vacation time , you make a little cash.

What is the current salary for Senior Accountant/Manager

It gives you options. It's not a huge benefit, but better than the use it or lose it policies of my last company. We can carry over a week of vacation, or cash it in. Lost too much vacation time in my career. Also, we can cash in sick time once we are close to the max accrual. Our company encourages people to take their vacation and to take their sick time. Much more employee friendly than my last company.

That's definitely NOT a way to boost a salary

This is basically the same as getting unused days paid out. Not the worst thing, but weird to phrase it as selling your days back.

At my job, we can roll over up to 5 days that weren’t used in the previous year, and they must be taken by mid March. In this case I’d probably rather just get the days paid out. My husband’s unused days get paid out to him so he always tries to leave a few days.

Scenario: A person with 13 YOE had 40 lpa fixed + 10 % bonus total 44 lpa ctc salary in her company. She switches to Infosys at a salary cut due to location constraints and was paid 40 Lpa ctc (only 32 fixed and 8 lpa variable out of which only 50-60% is paid). While in probation period in Infosys, she receives a permanent wfh opportunity from a small but fast growing company at 45 lpa fixed. So overall benefit she has is 45-36=9 lacs. Should she leave Infosys and join the new smaller company?

My boss fired me because i ask for clarification on my employment right.

I got hired not long ago. I realise some of the employee benefits i was told (missing in the contract) contradict with what’s stated on the law. So i email the boss about it and ask for clarification. Immediately after the email i was fired.

Just want to make sure people know this and don’t apply jobs in this shady company- it is called UniQ Biotech, in Delta, BC, Canada

Anyone here a Client Onboarding Associate for an RIA? We have YE reviews coming up soon. I’m pretty sure I am a shoe in for a promotion, but in case I don’t get it (god-forbid), what is the going salary for this position? I would definitely ask for a raise and a merit bass bonus, so I want to gauge what you all think a good salary is for this role. Any thoughts? Oh! I am also based in NYC.
