I agree with all. I would start with my association president and go from there. Include rep on email to president. This is definitely illegal, as others have said.

Yeah if the person whose personal information has been spread knows, they should definitely go to the union and file a grievance.

I would have immediately asked the admin if they had been given permission to tell folks. A few years ago, I was out for three days for a minor med procedure. I'm that guy that is never out, told a few and suggested they tell anyone that asked. Had I not, I would have lost it. Hopefully someone reached out to the person and let them know. If it is you, skip the union and get a lawyer.

Other than pregnancy leave for FMLA, we had a teacher who started the year with it. Admin told us he was battling Cancer. The teacher didn’t make it to October. A few days off is no one’s business. Most aren’t using FMLA. It really depends on the relationship we have with the admin. What was their agenda for telling others? In my case, they needed to make sure the subs got work for the students until they got a long term sub. If I was on FMLA for Cancer, I would not be making sub plans. If you have in writing, “I do not want others to know” when notifying admin for your leave of absence and they agree, then you have reason for the union and to get a lawyer. At the same time, you were comfortable telling admin exactly what you were gone for. I know any length of time a teacher is gone can impact the teachers and students around them. The teacher has the right to keep why they were gone a secret, but if it’s something everyone is going to notice and that teacher knows they work at a school where everyone likes to know everyone’s business, take precautions. Facts are better than rumors. Honestly, I would change schools. If the union needs to assist me to leave, so be it.

I feel like that person should bring up the issue with their admin and let them know they are breaking FERPA.

I might ask the person whose business is being let out of the bag if they knew it was happening. I would not broach with the administrator spreading it.

Has anyone given any thought to the possibility of keeping quarantined staff and students at school in a separate area and allow instruction to be monitored by said staff? I am not talking ones who are truly feeling ill but we have teachers who have had to ne home with allergy like symptoms...those teachers could monitor students who are also not feeling ill in an area a way from the nonquarantined student body...maybe other schools have students have students who work their hearts out not our

Help! My husband and have a blended family and different views on CVD. I am vaccinated and my son tested positive a few days ago and has been sick. Ill say it again, we should start considerin splitting the Union. There is a minority of the US who wants a mad man in charge. There is very little reason for the majority to abide by this.
