What is your policy on a rehire and how you handle accrual rates for PTO, do you start over? Do you have a window like if they return within 6 months it stays with original hire date? Do you handle this differently when it is a layoff? I tried to find best practices in this but not finding anything.

Does your employee handbook have anything that talks about this?
Ours is 6 months.

At our old firm we had a lot of boomerangs and we honored their previous time served. We had to enter a created seniority date to calculate benefits.

While we honor [broken] length of service with respect to certain retirement benefits, all else including PTO “resets” on your most recent hire date. It’s easy to document and consistent across the board for everyone so people are treated the same. By implementing too many rules and exceptions you will make it harder on the team to track and manage long-term, not to mention it could land you in hot water for disparate impact in specific scenarios. Recommendation from me is to “draw the line” on Day 1.

Our system has a leave accrual date that it uses to do the calculation. It cannot handle breaks of service so we end up going off the original hire date which can cause some inequities when there are large gaps.

Prior to going unlimited, we just kept previously earned accruals in place - regardless of the gap in employment dates.

There is a second H-1B lottery every year in July after processing first round applications. Any idea how would the EO affect this for people already in US? I know the chances are very slim in second lottery, but figured with layoffs and EO banning people coming into the country, the chances might higher than usual. Any thoughts will be appreciated!

Joined my firm 1.5 years ago (3rd year, lit) and have been slow since Day 1. Missed my hours target last year and am on track to be just as slow this year. I am staffed on a few cases but they’re quiet right now, and I regularly ask for work just to be ignored or told “thanks, but I have nothing.” Reviews have been good, I’m just not working enough. I like the partners I work with, and the work they do, but I am scared I’ll be fired if I miss my hours again this year. Should I be looking?

Considering a move to NTT Data in a healthcare consulting role. Mixed reviews in the bowls. Major concerns are bench policy, staff aug roles, 2 week PTO, and high turnover due to job dissatisfaction. Most likely getting fired, tips on how to find a job ASAP? I made a pretty big mistake that required supplemental filings with government offices to fix (missed some items when reviewing/comparing long lists of things across 20-30 years). It’s fixable and the client isn’t really getting hurt by this (worst case signing gets delayed), but my anxiety is telling me to prepare for the worst. Can I ask for extra time at the firm to find a new job (so I wasn’t “fired”)? Or should I go for severance?

Advice needed:
My company’s performance review period is going on. Direct reports do a performance review for their direct managers, and that review is then viewed by the manager, but is anonymous. I really have been struggling with my manager as they really micromanage and hover over a lot of my work. *I am also their only direct report.*
I am unsure how to be honest on my feedback/manager review as they are clearly going to know it was me, since I am the only one they manage.

What are the pros to being in a COE? Vs the cons? My main concern is I like being a jack of all trades and coes are focused on being an SME.
