[query] Is it a good idea to say a firm No due to medical reasons to a new night shift project I'm hired in?Accenture
I recently got a night shift project (2 days ago) that requires me to work from 10:30pm till 7:30am
I'm not comfortable with these timings and I'm thinking to ask my manager to put me on Bench (Due to medical reasons that involve mental health)
Is it a nice idea to say a firm No to a new project I'm hardlocked into, due to night shifts?

I don’t think it’s crucial for your own growth — YOU are ultimately responsible for yourself and your career and shouldn’t expect anyone to help you reach your goals. But it definitely can and does affect your happiness at a company, industry or what have you, which can stagnate your growth because of demotivation, etc.
Keep in mind a manager is not obligated to be your mentor or career coach. Those should actually be three separate people. I once took a job in a different industry because I thought the owner/manager would be my mentor, and he ended up being my worst boss ever (but I still learned a lot from the experience and it helped me get where I am today).
Try to find a separate mentor, as well as a career coach. Mentors are usually someone you might look up to in your network (maybe they have a position you want to obtain for yourself), while a career coach could be a stranger providing a service. Try to focus less on how bad your manager is, and more on what you can do yourself. But if your manager is really bringing you down, you can always try to find a way to no longer report to them (asking to change functions, telling someone in a leadership or HR role about your experiences if you’re comfortable, or just leaving the company). Good luck!
You’re welcome! It’s definitely hard. Best of luck to you!
