What is your school doing to protect teachers from covid? F2F all year with up to 25 students in a small classroom and teacher and student cases climbing in my building. I feel very vulnerable.

We have been virtual all year but are about to go face to face. I am incredibly nervous because my superintendent says student desks only have to be 3 ft apart which is not what CDC or the DHHS say. I am just stuck in the middle and my principal just says that the superintendent looked at my room and it's fine. I just got more students last week. When we go back, we will be hybrid, so I will only have approximately half of my student; however, one group still has 20 kids. My room is currently set up for 12. I'm not sure where I'm supposed to put the rest...

like

Well, right now we are still virtual but the governor has called for everyone to go back to school so we will see what our school board says. I do know that all hallways are one-way and doors will remain open. There are sanitizer dispensers in each classroom I believe. Teachers are provided sanitizing wipes, masks, and face shields. The desks are 6 feet apart so some classrooms have 15 students and others can have 23. I still don’t feel safe and since the y are making me go back to an empty building and I have a baby I am now on parental leave. I really do not see how our high schools should even go back or be face-to-face because I really don’t believe the teenagers will follow the protocol especially between class changes and what about when someone has to go to the bathroom and several people are in there all at once?.They will eat breakfast and lunch in our classrooms which means all of their masks will be off so that doesn’t seem safe either.

Full virtual option for students. In person students are in cohorts, all the way to seniors. High school students only go to their advisory/homeroom class. All instruction is virtual. Basically, we are remote learning even with those who come in. Those in the building are here for WiFi access/food/supervision. They get help from their advisory teacher in person or any teacher via video conferencing. Mask mandates and extra cleaning in every building.

like

We are fully asynchronous. Each teacher is responsible for creating video lessons and posting assignments in google classroom. The in person students get help from their HR teachers as much as possible. Every teacher basically has office hours all day while the in person students do their work on their device. Lots of zoom meetings with students. It has been working fairly well for the majority of our students.

Nothing. Kids are supposed to follow protocols but none are enforced. They’re honestly neglectful and playing with our lives. We’ve been hybrid this whole time and I can’t tell you the amount of kids who walk the halls with masks under their chins and acting like it’s pre Covid. We’ve been hit pretty hard here too. Constant cases and we’ve never closed or gone fully remote expect for one week after Winter Holiday.

likefunny

I’m with you NYHS. We have been mostly f-2-f this entire year. Covid is everywhere but the students don’t care. Remind a student to mask up and the eyes roll. Of course, where I live covid: “ain’t that bad” or “it’s fake” or (from yesterday) “isn’t man-made? So it’s not a real virus”. 🤦🏼‍♀️ It’s the constant misinformation that keeps everyone unprotected. Our own ignorance🥺

I am flat on my back for the 10th day trying to recover from COVID..... writing substitute lesson plans eating away at my sick days... all because I went to work at school? Why aren't we protecting teachers & supporting them when they do get sick?

like

I'm not sure why you are burning up sick days if you are working from home? If you are forced to use your sick days then stop teaching from home. I know you may be worried about educating your students but it doesn't sound like anyone cares about you...

Look at it this way, the vast majority of cases have minor symptoms or are asymptomatic. My building has been in session most the year and not a single person in my building has been hospitalized. I choose not to live in fear and I take what doctors suggest: 1000 mg of vitamin C and Zinc along with a multivitamin. Ever since I began taking this, I haven’t been sick in several years.

like

Oh god, another one of those. Well I have seen the teacher right across from me hospitalized, and he nearly died. He pulled through and after 4 months has returned, but he has to walk everyday or he fears his lungs will not ever recover. It's asymptomatic until it's not. There is no rhyme or reason as to who recovers without a hitch and who becomes a long hauler. I WiLL nOt LiVe iN FeAr is probably one of the most ignorant messages to put out there right now.

Our district has been F2F all year. Numbers really low. Felt pretty good. Then, WHOMP! I got it.

like

I started on a hybrid with very small classes (let’s be clear; in person at all is not all that safe). They’ve been adding students here and there all year. Just got told I’m getting 9 all at once. No more distancing between kids. Hallways look like a normal year. I never stop telling kids to distance and wear masks. I’m exhausted.

like

I'm in the same boat as you and yes, I caught Covid!

Where’s the MEME?

like

We are all virtual, and a very small number come for appointment based services (no more than 4 students at once), usually only 1 hour/week. Everyone has to wear masks, there are plastic barriers at desks/tables, hand sanitizer dispensers in every classroom.... still voluntary for teachers/staff to come on-site.

like

We’ve been F2F all year without a problem 🤷‍♀️ less than 1% infection rate, and all cases traced back to parents. Masks are on, plexiglass partitions on group tables or space out desks. It’s going really well.

We have to ensure that the measures we take are designed for the safety of ALL. Hoping that people don’t get sick is not enough. We have to intentionally (on purpose) create safe environments for students and staff.

like

You’d think. Then, there’s my reality. 🥺

I live in Northern California. My district has no students in class only distance/virtual learning.

like

Super!

Same situation here. F2F, 20+, mask required but not enforced. Students are to sanitize in and out but again not enforced. No more sanitizing mist used in the building. No disinfecting of common areas. Cases are climbing here too. Feeling very vulnerable.

like

See, that’s my fear. Protocol enforcement will slack off. Ours phase back in on Monday.

We have just been added to a vaccine list. Otherwise, not a lot...masks (that students refuse to wear properly b/c this part of Texas doesn’t believe covid is real, disinfectant to wipe down desks each period, and that’s about it. Zero social distancing. Zero contact tracing. Under reporting of numbers by making the requirements so challenging most can’t/won’t do them (pcr verified cases only get reported to the public or the health department)

like

We have enforced social distancing in our cafeteria and classrooms. About 1/3 of our students chose the remote option so that gives us the ability to reduce class sizes. I see students in my classroom twice a week for 85 minutes each time. Most students wear masks properly during the school day although one day after school I was there later than usual and encountered the girls' bb team painting posters in the hallway and nobody was wearing a mask...including the team members who are remote students this year.

Large number of teachers out today. 🤔🦠?

Officially, we do contact tracing but in practice, that does not happen.

like

We sanitize constantly and are vigilant mask enforcers. It’s all we can do.
