EAs (Executive Assistants) on Fishbowl

What kind of flexibility does your company offer? Ours offers one work from home day per quarter, which seems absolutely ridiculous

Wow, BCG doesn’t even compare. Assistants have been leaving in droves and many more looking elsewhere for flexibility, myself included. Very helpful to know, thank you.

We allow EAs one day per week unless you’re a working parent in which case you get 2 days per week.

The AAs here get at least one day a week.

Lax WFH policy here, but I work off of when my execs are in the office .. if they are all remote or traveling I will WFH, otherwise I’m in the office.

GT lets you WFH especially if your partner is traveling or OOTO. Makes no sense to sit at my desk to support someone that isn’t even there. As long as you get your work done it shouldn’t matter where your body is.

In our office, EAs are highly encouraged NOT to work from home. Everyone else can, though.

my firm gives us 1 day a week. it is predetermined but we can change as needed.

After a year of service and good performance ratings, you qualify for one work from home day. You get to choose a day between Tuesday to Thursday and coordinate with your backup. That's the case in the Dallas office.

at our Chicago office, EAs work from home whenever they want -- even if their partner or a client meeting is in the office.

That is ridiculous. We have a policy that encourages people to work from home one day a month - but you have to have been with the company 6 months. 🙄

Lazard doesn’t offer any wfh for assistants. Seems very outdated from other comments I’m reading.

In a day where things are being outsourced and there are now hubs of virtual EAs in companies I wouldn’t complain. We can’t work from home unless there is a reason and it’s requested and even at that, it’s limited. If I can WFH all the time there is no reason my job can’t be done by a virtual EA.

It’s good you have flex to WFH as needed. I don’t see the option becoming more liberal where I am either. I’ve found many companies that offer one day/week after a certain tenure and the responses in this thread give me hope too. It’s out there!

I've worked from home 2 days a week the last 8 years and have been recently told that I need to give up o e of those WFH days. When I ask why, the only reason they could provide was because all the other EAs are only approved to do one day a week. This is a big deal for me because I drive over 70 miles each way and now it will cost me time from family, gas, wear and tear in car and I'll have to pay an extra day of daycare for my dog since he suffers from serious separation anxiety. I am a top performer amongst my peers etc..

If you are UK based, everyone is entitled to submit a flexible working request by law. The business can only really decline it if their would be a commercial impact which you can prove there is not from the previous 8 years. Get your HR team involved.

Wow, I didn’t think it would be as bad as BCG, but all of you are very lucky to have such great flex!

One recurring work from home day after a year of service with good performance ratings. You have to choose between Tues - Thur.

Dallas. You should follow up with your managers. There is a form you fill to request it.

My company offers great flexible schedule options but it really depends on which department you sit on. I have the option to talk to my group about an option that would work for all of us. What works for me right now is having flexibility for the time I come in and being able to leave at 5pm with the understanding that I’m reachable after hours. I love this flexibility and quite honestly it keeps me here.

It does! And it keeps employees happy and productive because let’s face it most of us can do our jobs with our eyes closed and in half the time once we have the experience.

Unless you have a specific reason, and take time to request a WFH, EAs are not allowed to work from home

We have a very flexible arrangement and most areas are working toward agile seating. I WFH whenever my boss is traveling or on holiday.
