You don't negotiate work-life balance or remote. WLB is something where you find the right company for that. Remote is something you should have discussed early in the process.
The rest is what you can actually negotiate.
^^^ this. Who you work with is almost more important than what you work on. A bad manager with little to no emotional intelligence can break you. You would also have the burden of trying to work around the negative reputation of that particular legal department.
Just accepted an in-house offer that was too good for me to refuse.
210 base + bonus and equity for a TC of 250 and change (3 YOE). Permanently remote, small signing bonus to help offset non-vested 401k match at previous company.
More important than the money though was that during the interview process my manager had a clear vision for the role and my growth, and conversations with both my manager and the leads of other teams I would be working with all felt very natural. For in-house roles, cultural fit will make or break the experience for you, and if there is not a clear path for growth/advancement you may find yourself with one foot out the door rather quickly.

Yup this is what I was worried about. I ended up turning down the offer because what I’m looking for right now is still only going to be at big law. I’ll reassess as a 6th year haha

Whatever feels like the best fit for you. What is attractive for in-house should be about personal values, goals and interests. If your goal is to make as much money as you can, but with much better wlb than firm, then you focus on the comp numbers. If you want to enjoy the work, have greater opportunity for growth/upward mobility or transitioning to a biz role, or something else, you focus on those aspects.
Bottom Line: it's different for everyone and only you can answer that question for you.
Base comp north of 2 with bonus and equity.
But more important would be the direct manager and the quality of their supervisor/mentorship.
It obviously depends on what you value the most, but for me it was the ability for me to work from my hometown. My job was supposed to be in one city and I asked to work in another (a few time zones away). I didn't raise it until the manager said she had some direct reports throughout the country. I negotiated a bit on pay and sign on bonus but said that working from X city would seal the deal. It is such a competitive environment right now that they gave in without hesitation -- the money was where we had to get creative.
