No salaried position is only 40 hours a week. But you can make it more manageable by delegating more and developing others. You set your own boundaries; and learn to say no. With only 3 years in, this is easier said than done, but my advice is to stick with it. Can you switch to a non-Sox team? Are you interested in compliance auditing or internal audit? Consulting in PA isn’t 40 hours either, but it seems to be more consistent year round.

Maybe try working for a smaller CPA firm on a reduced work schedule?
Can you ask to audit private companies?
Yea the bigger offices do anyway. I only audit private equity clients
I’ve considered trying out being a senior in industry, but knowing myself I think I would get bored of the redundancy very quickly. But also, is it possibly to have a 9-5 that isn’t redundant?
I might just be dreaming here lol
The same question though I am fine with controls and a busy season if the rest of the year has less than 40 hours
