I decided to enter industry because I wanted to have a more direct impact on the world and see my work have an immediate impact. I do not regret this decision, though it was difficult to leave academia.
I think industry offers many opportunities to make a real difference in the world, while also allowing for a great deal of personal growth and satisfaction.
They offered me a salary that it was impossible for me to refuse, despite giving up my doctorate, I will have to go back soon, I know I will finish it.
My doctoral thesis had a lot to do with the study of geological stresses, when the company I work for found out they immediately called me to develop my doctoral thesis as a business project, I gave up finishing my idea for a while but when complete my project I will have tangible results to finish getting my doctorate.
Honestly? The stress became too much. My mental health declined rapidly to the point where I stopped going to the lab completely and eventually just gave up. I wish it hadn't ended that way, but I'm not mad at myself for it either.
