What makes a job candidate’s portfolio & resume stand out to you (especially when considering Jr./new-to-design candidates if there are any notably distinct considerations)?

Interview with thr HR went well and I was told I will be scheduled for an interview with the engineering team. I'm not quite sure what kind of questions to expect from engineering team. I have 5 YOE in Analytics... always thought I wanted to be a DS, but every job (even the junior ones) required experience in ML development. Though I am part of the ML project, I'm not the person develop the model. And I have a hard time when the interviewer ask about how I develop the model and what hyperparameters I tuned. I wanted to start a thread. What vitamins / supplements / medications are you taking for your menopause symptoms? I’m supposed to take Estradiol pills twice per day but sometimes am horrible at remembering. I should be taking D3 per my Doctor but when I ran out earlier in the year I never bought more. Hello, currently I am on notice period, last month I have worked on saturday and applied for compensatory off in BMS tool, and in workday I had applied as Casual time off as my manager told m to do so. now I am getting leave type mismatch email , and manager is saying you can ignore that email. I had a really weird interview for Creative Director today.

It’s a small startup. HR interviewed me and asked all the hard hitting questions (how do you get design inspiration, how do you deal with design roadblocks, what sets you apart for this role?) which I thought was odd for a screening interview.

They made some affirmative noises then said the next step would be a design test (one pager) which I would present to a panel of interviewers including the CMO.

Impromptu speaking is a nightmare. I struggle to find the right words for even the simplest things. I struggle to translate my thoughts into words.

I got turned down for three mid level design positions. I don’t know if it’s because my last position was as an art director and they’re just confused or if I seem not as enthusiastic about the role as I should be but it’s definitely disheartening because I’m unemployed and I need to get back to work. I have since decided to focus more on senior designer and Art Director roles at a higher rate and will go from there.
