What my client organization needs is for people to work together. Pretty PowerPoints with process flows or getting them to use Jira isn't the solution. It's culture change. How do I make that happen?

That’s the number 1 reason people bring consultants in

like

They need the right leadership to make this happen - and for them to set the right context and culture. Hard for consultants to change that but recommend away my friend... everyone needs aligned incentives and a healthy combination of purpose driven mission and fear to spur them forward

We can tell leadership to tell the employees to work together. But how do you create an organic desire among employees themselves to work as a team? A top-down approach just isn't enough.

You don't. That's against the definition of organic. You can have well executed programs and policy changes that allow people to reasonably adapt, but even then you will have a small degree of attrition, and it's not at all an organic desire. If you figured out a way to organically make clients' employees suck less, you'd be a billionaire.

like

This can happen from 2 factors - distrust among employees or distrust of leadership. Do employees trust their leaders and do the leaders genuinely care for their staff?

Why ? Their inefficiency and lack of coordination is your opportunity to earn those dollars 💵

That's so subjective though. What is a good outcome for you is, for a client exec, not sufficiently good optics for their time commitment and political capital expended. What is a meaningless outcome to us is sometimes exactly what the client wanted (rubber stamping their dumb idea). But if this outcome pays the bills and I get to take my girl on vacation, that's the best outcome. Not at all saying we shouldn't strive to leave our mark but.... Realistically we're just white collar hookers man.

This is the reason I left! Recommendations can only take your client so far and I didn’t feel fulfilled leaving things at that

I have a 6 month old, and I am 6.5 years out from law school. I would like to start trying to have another kid at the end of this year but feel if I wait a couple of more years to switch firms, no one will consider me since I'll be 8.5-9 years out and trying to break into a new practice area. I am going on 36.5 years old. I don't want to leave now and tell any that I am pregnant within the first year but I also don't want to leave immediately after I return from maternity leave. I feel stuck.
