Why should we tip? I understand the restaurant industry grew with the idea that they will not pay waiters minimum wages. So it makes sense to tip there. Other places need justification.
D1, you are already paying them to give you a ride or touch your back for an hour.
I don’t know if you all remember, back in the early days of Uber, I’m talking like 6-7 years ago, one of their selling points was that you didn’t have to tip. You didn’t have to use cash and you didn’t have to tip. It was this magical new app. Lyft came out and they were a little different. They allowed older cars, had cheaper fares, but had the option to tip. Then one day Uber added a tipping option and now it’s customary.
I always tip on all rides & food delivery apps. I’m pretty sure the driver needs the dollar more than I do (especially when it’s getting reimbursed!)
I’d be fine with that if the money went to the actual person doing the service but they get screwed over with what they actually earn on the rides vs what people pay etc. That’s why I never tip less than 20% in a restaurant either

10%/90%- I tip personally when it’s airport rides. I don’t tip professionally when prices are surging or the driver’s a poor driver or poor human.

Rarely, a driver will be amazing and I will tip a few bucks.
Also tip if I’m doing a long trip. I’ve ubered to an airport that was 2 hours away before. That’s a pain in the ass.
