For anyone reading these "anxious first year" posts, you can basically ignore all of these crazy rules that junior attorneys think apply to them. The reality is you can act however you want in big law and no one will care as long as you are competent and not annoying or burdensome to others. And, unfortunately for the posters on this app, no amount of rules will stop an annoying attorney from annoying their co-workers.

This times 1000x. If you are good at your job you can get away with just about anything (within the realm of reasonableness, nothing that requires a call to HR). If you are unreliable and/or your work product requires me to go over it with a fine tooth comb, there is no set of mannerisms that will make me like you. Partners are the same with the exception of a handful of weirdos.

Yeah….idgaf. I say no problem all the time and will continue to. People need to chill out.

Lmao I say no problem all the time whoops

like

Well yeah. That’s just basic English.

Also I refuse to call anyone Mr. or Mrs. I would certainly never call anyone “Ma’am.” There was this ancient guy at the first law firm I worked at who only really showed up to eat the free lunch and strut around. He was a founding partner of the office and revered by everyone. Everyone called him “Mr. -Partner-“. I was a clueless first year, sat next to him at lunch, looked at his name tag and called him by his first name. He didn’t blink twice, everyone was astonished and from that day on everyone called him by his first name. I had NO idea what was going on. The point is, all the societal structures you think exist are a facade.

I’ve heard that whole explanation before as to why you shouldn’t say “no problem” but have never actually met anyone who has or has ever had a problem with it. I just searched my inbox and I have juniors, midlevel, seniors, partners and clients all saying it variously.

Why can’t we say no problem

Anyone who would ever take issue with the phrase "no problem" has to be deeply insecure. Talk about reading too much into things. Sheesh. I hope I never encounter someone that gives me attitude for that response because I would not take kindly to it, regardless of their job title.

My go-to passive aggressive response when I reluctantly agree to do something is "Sure."

K.

What even is this post? I’ve never even heard of this. “No problem” just means “ok” or “will do.” Almost every English speaker knows that. Do people seriously sit around and worry about stupid things like this.

You know what, it IS a problem. One problem after the next, never ending problems.

They don’t understand it’s like dating (“im stressed out because I need to get married”) and want to set her up for success for the future.
