What part of the Dave Chappelle Netflix special is controversial? I want to watch that part specifically but it’s over an hour long … anyone watch?

Wasn’t his best work. But very good. Glad it’s up on Netflix. A lot of brittle people out there who want to be serious at a comedy special. Go in- have a good time and go
Back to life. Keep the politics away from. Comedy.

If you watched it and like Dave Chappelle's comedy (and I do), it's good as usual. He's using his comedy to discuss topics he wants to discuss and share his viewpoint - that's what he does, and most prominent comedians have always done. And he doesn't need to "justify his jokes" - he's a comedian and free to tell whatever jokes he wants. If you don't like it, change the channel - that's your right. But it's not your right to cancel someone because you don't agree with or like what they have to say. That's the growing issue - many people are becoming too fragile to listen to debate and discourse and have an actual discussion.

Dave Chappelle makes jokes about drug dealing babies in black ghettos - standing ovation from white people
Dave Chappelle makes jokes about crack heads - standing ovation from white people
Dave Chappelle makes jokes about child molestation - standing ovation from white people
Dave Chappelle makes jokes about sexual violence - standing ovation from white people
Dave Chappelle makes fun of white trans people - horrified pearl clutching

Pardon me while I significantly discount the sincerity and moral certainty of the champagne liberals.

The irony is that Dave explained everything about this on that special. A few hundred years ago this would have been called a prophecy, lol.

Manufactured outrage. News media says there’s a controversy, which creates a meta controversy, which spirals into a real controversy etc. If you go outside into the real world nobody cares about this comedy special, watch it if you want but there’s nothing actually controversial

likefunny

Strictly funniest? Probably not. But essential social commentary? Probably. As a cap to this special series, it was epic and legendary.

Rotten Tomatoes
Critics - 43%
Audience - 95%

Tells me he probably said some things that aren’t hyper-PC and it hurt feelings.

It's exactly the same when you look at what comments are most liked and least liked in this entire thread.

The ironic part is that his entire special is a social commentary on the media twisting his jokes/sentiment.

Chapelle attacks trans people for like 45 minutes and says he’s not bad because he had a trans friend. Sound familiar to arguments made throughout history about other groups? That trans friend ended up committing suicide possibly because Chapelle treated them as some side show or shield to his act.

funnylikehelpful

No he didn’t attack trans people at all. He was attacking the people who falsely think he’s transphobic.

He was attacking you.

If you think Chappelle’s show should be cancelled, you’re part of the problem. You’re part of the same hate filled group of ideological purists that drove Chappelle’s trans comedian friend to kill herself. That’s who you are. So do us all a favor, for once, and kindly f*ck off.

I thought it was super-watchable ...There are some truly funny one-liners that still bring a smile to my face whenever I think of them

The same people who found Chappelle offensive. Are the same ones who think Colbert is funny. Comedy is so watered downed now, it’s honestly super sad.

Just because you all weren’t offended doesn’t mean his jokes weren’t offensive

C1 are you joking ? Seriously what his wrong with your mind ?

Words aren’t ‘physical violence.’
You have no granted rights to not be offended.

Manufactured outrage is so hot right now.

If you’re going to watch those parts, then you gotta watch the whole thing!

None of it is, unless you’re someone who loves to find something to be triggered about

Every single person in this thread claiming “manufactured outrage” as if othering trans people doesn’t translate to direct violence towards them. You don’t get to define what is offensive to other groups of people. Why don’t you actually stop and talk to a trans person and get their thoughts? You might learn something instead of keyboard warrioring about an issue you’re likely severely undereducated on.

likefunny

Your ignorance is violence. He was attacking people who have misrepresented him as a means to move the goalposts of oppression and provoke a competition of the oppressed.

Good point about DaBaby by the way.

He made jokes about everyone that most people laughed at and some people got offended. That’s really the jist of it

like

Umm he’s a comedian, you don’t have to take what he says seriously and it’s for entertainment. Also it’s a free country, no one is forcing people to watch the show on Netflix.

like

Lol

If u don’t like his special then maybe just don’t watch it lmao

I’m offended by the woke movement for their offensive rhetoric that threatens my freedom of speech. Can we cancel them?

I’ve dealt with social anxiety essentially forever. I’m really happy with my job as a newer associate in a mid-size firm, but I have never gotten comfortable with phone calls - for whatever reason, the phone is my nemesis! I can call clients and it’s fine, but when it involves opposing counsel or a self-rep I get really nervous and often trip over my words which is embarrassing. I have a phone court appearance due to Covid coming up so I’m especially nervous. Anyone else had to deal with this?
