What percent of law grads become biglaw? Is there good data on this?

No one becomes big law. They get devoured by big law.

At the risk of sounding like a lawyer, I’d say “it depends” on exactly how you define “BigLaw.” Most T-14 schools publish data on their graduates’ destinations. I went to Michigan and I believe like 60% go into private practice and if that maybe half, so roughly 30% is “BigLaw.”

Oh yeah, I mean a Michigan Law grad can access almost any BigLaw shop. My point is that paying market doesn’t always equal BigLaw.

Depends on the school. I’d say maybe 30% of my class to begin with? A lot less now 5 years out

I’ve heard 13%. I can not confirm that

Unaccredited law schools included?

Good question. I want to research that.

Thank you

I’ve read that it’s less than 10%. Would be surprised if a law prof hasn’t dissected the data (amlaw 100 hires / total JD….numerator could change based on how you define big law). Try SSRN to find a paper that has the data. As noted above, law school is the single most important factor in determining whether big law is an option. The further down the law school rankings you go the higher your class rank has to be for big law to consider you. Other factors can be important too though - like if you had a pre law school career. tax group hired non-t14 law school grad with a CPA with sold grades from mid tier law school and an LLM, IP team hired former pharmacist who went to mid tier law school, etc.

Lawschooltransparency used to have good data on this. No idea if they're still around.

So I've heard from a bunch of people that working as a Product Designer at a FAANG company isn't as glamourous as people make it out to be.

Is there any truth to this? Or is it just bitter people who didn't get hired?

I've heard the work life balance is tough, and that people usually leave after less than 1.5 years because the churn is crazy.

Is it worth going for FAANG companies or nah?

I am so tired of being treated like an assistant and I’m at a loss on how to correct it. My coworkers are generally nice, but while I watch white (usually male) associates at my level or even more junior get substantive work, I’m still receiving administrative tasks as a mid-level. Appreciate any advice.

If you’re succeeding on all the right metrics (i.e., leadership loves you, clients love you, you’re participating on pitches, you’ve brought in clients, and you’re set up to inherit a book of business), but you’re still not super into it, being promoted to income partner won’t change things, right? Worth sticking out to see or jumping to go in house at a pre-IPO, late stage startup you find super exciting and interesting?
