Good to know. I know now but wish someone told me before hand
Make sure you bring your style of leadership. Diversity means difference, not replicating the alpha male leadership that you’ve encountered. Believe in yourself, and your empathetic, wholistic view of your world. Also... ensure that, upon taking on the role, ensure you have the correct mandate to do the job you have been given: that you will be given the autonomy and resources to enact the change/challenges they have given you. Ask specific questions around ability to restructure as you need (and you will need this) and to reward and remunerate as you need. Look up articles on “the glass cliff” - women given shitty businesses, working their backsides off to make it a going concern, then, as soon as it’s back on its feet, being given to a male again.
I can think of 3 ways: 1. You need internal advocates and get enough attention to be spotlighted for grooming into an exec position (popularity with the influentials matters); I believe this used to happen on the golf course lols 2. Get your MBA if you don’t already have it 3. Move to a small company where you can be a big fish in a small pond.
