Monthly Income: do you guys use the take home (minus taxes, 401K, HSA) per pay period * 26 / 12 to determine monthly (non bonus) income for budgeting purposes? Or you just do pay periods and treat the ones with three separately?

Need some help digesting compound interest for Roth IRA portfolio. Compound interest is easy enough a concept to understand and is a reliable method of compounding your money in the long haul. But most common investments within a Roth IRA are index funds like VTSAX or FXAIX, which follow S&P 500 returns which on average return >7%. And so 2 questions here. 1) what element of this is compounding, 2) wouldn’t a smarter investment strategy to allocate 50% index funds 50% F500 dividend paying stock
