What position is it “acceptable” to get a luxury car (Mecerdes, Audi, etc)?

Do not care at all, it’s my money and if I’m in a position to afford a nice car I’ll buy it no matter my title. Currently have a Porsche for weekend drives and daily a vintage Land Rover, no shame, my comp allows for me to afford it comfortably and still save. You only live once, enjoy it.

LW1 nice 👀

Realistically, consider how you will ACTUALLY use your car, your current situation for parking, and your likely situation over the next 5 years. Would you be better suited for two vehicles (e.g., small commuter and a SUV)? Is it just you, or do you have a SO? Kids in the pipeline? Are you buying it just for a status symbol? Are you passionate about cars and love taking leisurely drives? Long commutes and want to bask in the luxury? My opinion is go for practical, which typically isn't a luxury car. They are more expensive in all regards, including parts and servicing. To me, it's primarily a mode of transportation, not a chance to flaunt my wealth. That said, I love driving and bought a stick-shift VW GTI, because it's fun to drive and gets reasonably decent gas mileage. Just some considerations. No situation is the same. You do you!

Stick-shift GTI 😍 must be so fun. My dad has a ‘92 Mazda Miata convertible that’s fun to whip around in. The best.

Dude get whatever car you want lol wut.

I work from home but I bought a mini truck with a dump bed and plow for $6500 from a friend in Canada. So much better than a luxury sedan. And the driver's seat is on the right! This is a dealer photo. I don't have a personal photo of mine that doesn't dox me. This doesn't answer your question but it does speak to "there are worse thing than a Toyota"

It's fun to drive to Home Depot. All the contractors are like "WTF is that?!?" It's a functional dump truck that cost the same as the bed liner on your GMC.

the only position you should be concerned about is your financial position. doesn’t matter if you’re staff, you might have your e-commerce business booming.. be yourself, get the car you want, don’t wait to get the car u want just to look more humble lol

It would be weird to be an Staff pulling up in a 2021 luxury car while your manager has a Toyota (nothing against Toyota!). I guess I’m asking for a personal opinion.

My rule is when my salary is 4x the price of my car, it doesn’t matter my title.

Like what is financially super responsible? Car cost should be like 1/10th your yearly gross income. More in keeping with reality and social expectation in various ways, ~25% gross yearly income is probably a good metric.

Making over 300k and my car is 15 years old. Runs like a gem. Toyota

Nice!

At the position that you can afford it. Our MD drives a 10yr old Nissan SUV. But other people on the team have nice cars. Buy what you like.

Why would title matter? Only comp matters.

Just a quick example, in Spanish soccer league the rookies (young players) are not allowed to buy luxury cars even though they can afford it until they earn it. It’s not explicitly stated but it’s just a written rule. A youth player can be earning 250k+ a year. I know I can buy whatever I want. That wasn’t my question, I was wondering if there was an unwritten rule of perception. I currently drive a Honda Accord 2013.. but it was just a question. Jesus.

Okay mad guy

Get whatever car you want.

Whatever you do is lease that import bc the parts kept pricey for maintenance. G wagon trucks or my favorite, a Quigly, are write offs

Can Audit salary afford a lux car.... that's the right question to ask....

Not really - current presumed income doesn't necessarily reflect what another can afford.,, maybe he/she got scholarships to completely pay for college, perhaps the individual comes from a wealthy family that provides a stipend or trust fund payments, maybe the person is just extremely frugal and responsible in all other aspects of his or her life and wants to indulge in this one thing. You never know.

I always thought it was strange that agencies rarely let candidates know the client until they are towards the end of the process. My position has way more job security than others simply because I work for a CPG client. Those in the same role on other accounts (e.g. airlines, hotels, fitness) have been furloughed or even laid off just because of the nature of the industry their client is in. Do we think agencies will have to be more transparent and let candidates ultimately chose the client?
