A VP in my team always reminds me that “I’m LUCKY to be 1. a woman 2. Black and 3. Young” every time we go out for team drinks (In comparison to white men who don’t ticket the diversity box).......🙃
DEI in partnership. I’m in a large firm, and we are going through our list of partner candidates by practice, industry, region … new language today: “if you want to put up a male candidate, you need to put up a female candidate first.” While I’m an advocate of diversity and the need for explicit checks to avoid unconscious biases, this is getting uncomfortable. Are we getting closer to discrimination? Are we walking away from meritocracy? Disclosure: I’m male.
This is basically the answer to every “Wait, is it okay/wrong/legal that a lot of job postings now explicitly encourage BIPOC/female candidates vs. white males—isn’t that reverse discrimination??” post: https://www.instagram.com/tv/CMXv5KNAjHs/?igshid=hxrb8v6qdiwq
What percent of your GROSS income do you pay for rent? Age, gender, and if you’re sharing with a S/O would be helpful as well!
D 🐠, another “Inclusion Speaker” series happening now: Beverly Daniel Tatum. https://tedx.stanford.edu/lineup/beverly-daniel-tatum
From a racial and gender perspective, it feels like my agency is overcorrecting at times. Does anyone else experience this? Seems like I’m punished for being a white guy in advertising nowadays.
Any men whose wives/SOs make more? How do you navigate the traditional gender roles in your relationship?
In honor of Equal Pay Day, post your age, salary, city, and gender. It will be interesting to have a list.
Man...I'm so confused. Sitting in this class about Conscious Inclusion and someone made the comment that we need to start considering and including "White males."
So I am seeing this guy, and whenever we go out for dinner we split the bill 50/50. Like he doesn't even offer to pay. But when we go out for drinks after dinner he pays. He's currently doing his MBA so loans and told me that money was always tight when he was a kid so I get it, but sometimes it's hard not to compare to my ex who used to pay for everything when we went out. But then again he had a range of other issues hence the ex... please offer some respectful thoughts to help me 😊
I’m a woman in my mid 20s and constantly face situations where people outside of cyber (still within the company) that I’m dealing with (older men in particular) who always push back against my cyber/technical recommendations even with managers cc’d. I studied, earned certs, and worked hard to get to where I am. Is it bc of my gender and age? In all honesty, I’ve written recommendations that male counterparts voiced in the past that had ZERO pushbacks.
This city has a lot to offer in literally everything. With such diversity in all things (people, food, sports, events, schools, arts, etc) and magnitude (population size and density), one should expect complexities that come with the territory. Illness, rent, subway, etc. Empathize with the current situation but don’t be blinded by the media’s reporting frenzy that profits off of your clicks. If you can’t deal, then don’t. But no need to project your superiority over a city’s pain.
Do you all put your race and gender on job applications, or omit that info? In this day and age I don’t know if it hurts, helps, or doesn’t matter.
India, one of the potentially most diverse diaspora on the planet, is currently moving away from principles of diversity and inclusion. Change my mind...
If I am already well into the highest tax bracket and will be for the next ten+ years, and if I am inheriting a sizable IRA... do you suggest cashing out (with the tax hit) so I can grow it with diversity and flexibility or do I stretch and just take RMDs until I am required to empty it? I feel like I am getting biased advice from the institution.
Advice as I’m not sure whether it’s just “me”. A white male leader who’s always saying the “right things” about supporting female, diversity, being an ally, etc. I had many interactions with him, and his word of choice, statement irks me. For example: who’s your role model (a single person in the company), or put me more as second lieutenant role, made an assumption that I don’t have network, and always gave me the “rah rah” about my salary is good when I asked about comparison to my peers.
Anyone a black inclusion network lead for D&I?
Thanks for doing this Paul! I'm pretty interested in data on this. Do some states have teachers w/ more student loans than others? Is there a gender gap?
Between Nivea's "white is purity" ad and Pepsi's "Black soda matters" ad. We can all agree it's time to STOP asking...is diversity a issue within marketing?

Have finally gotten past the mindset of wanting to order the most expensive dish just because I can expense it.
Sent an email to someone with an OOO, but I also have an OOO... Is outlook smart enough to stop the cycle?
What would Trump say if he was a consultant?
Deloitte Consulting names Janet Foutty CEO. About time! 🙆💃💃 http://www.chicagotribune.com/bluesky/originals/ct-deloitte-consulting-janet-foutty-ceo-bsi-20151207-story.html
What undergrad school did you go to?
Manager: "You understand what you're doing?" Me: "Yes." Me internally: "I have no idea what the hell Im doing."
Punched a director in the mouth today for talking shit. I've been holding that in for 2 years. Feels like I came for the first time.
Just came across this article. Coinbase going to let employees rate each other (with a like, dislike or neutral reaction) on an app based on their core principles. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/coinbase-reportedly-wants-staff-rate-104649308.html. I think this will only create a toxic work culture. Good lord.
On boarded onto a case 2weeks after it started. Manager always leaves me out of the loop when meeting with clients/partners but will include the other senior associate consultant who’s been on the case since the beginning. Should I ask to be included?
I've had my iPad alarm go off in the morning with these meditation mantras about not being too hard on myself. I now can't tell if I am at a healthy level of self critiquing or if I am now a slacker
I may not have a lot of friends but I know I have a few friends I can count on. My mortgage fell through at last minute for stupid reason, and my friends agree to just lend $300k combined cont.
Hi all - any advice for trying to transition into Strategy from Finance Transformation? Would I stand a better chance by looking at boutique firms? I’m a SA with 4 YOE. Thanks for your help!
I'm finally switching over to industry. The pay is similar as my current but I think I'm okay with it. I've been here for 5 years. I'm tired and spent. I really hope I'm making the right decision.
