Leadership = Service. Good leaders know how to serve the people they are leading. They have zero ego and are lead by a call to serve and make sure everyone is taken care of to the best of their ability. They don’t point fingers and talk behind people’s back. They do find solutions and assume good will. They are looking for the best in people. They do not pass the buck. Leaders can only operate if people are following. In a school environment especially, people rarely follow people who are negative. Leaders tell the truth no matter what and are not interested in being liked. They are interested in whether the needs of their constituents are being met. They believe in the work and in the people whole heartedly. Their talk matches their walk. Its been a long time since I had a good school leader. I’ve seen them in other areas of my life. But we have a serious lack of leadership going on in this country.

OMG! That is good! As educators ... we are in the success business! All so very true!

Empathy, fairness, vision, they must also be willing to go back into the classroom and teach so they know what teachers are dealing before making rules and policies that maybe difficult or impossible to carry out.

Fairness. Don’t show favoritism. Give all a chance to shine.

likeuplifting

Favoritism can be hard to avoid even for a great principal. The truth is that fair and equal are not always the same thing. Ex. When things pop up (testing, parent nights, ect.) that are all hands on deck, someone who never does extra gets tagged, while someone who always volunteers and does extra gets a pass. Equal? Nope; fair? Yep.

Our vice principal can’t write a coherent sentence. He usually copies and paste other emails that others have sent and changes the words to fit them in his own emails. He literally can’t read or write.

That they NEVER forget that they were once teachers...and stop being just an extension of a dean. The normal path is to first be a dean...I think that causes them to become punitive in nature.

Hahahaha! That is hysterical! I sooooo get it!

The longer they teach before becoming a principal, l think the better they are as principals.

That seems to be not the case anymore! Maybe teach 1-year!

I have a good principal, its the higher ups that drive me mad.

I totally agree. My principal is amazing, but I see tons of poor leadership all around them.

Oh, this particular issue is isolated, but part of a pattern of behavior of general checked-out-ness. He’s got a job elsewhere next year and is less and less invested here by the day, which sucks right now. Not caring enough to read his own text before (or even after) sending is just another symptom. I posted without context because it felt nice just to laugh about it. But there’s your context.

Empathy. Have just a little empathy. Don’t rule by fear and intimidation!!!! Treat teachers with actual respect! Don’t talk to us as if we are an errant nine-year-old child! Most teachers are not supported by their Admin. (We are expected to spend lots of time after school sponsoring events, club meetings.... WEEKLY FACULTY AND PLC MEETINGS, taking PD CLASSES..it is endless! Sometimes, I wonder if I will ever get home.!!

Never says don't wait to be led. Which a Texas superintendent said today.

I really wonder about some superintendents. They totally lose touch with the classroom, especially those wonder kids who taught the minimum, moved into administration, earned those PhD’s in record time and bam! Supers in 10-12 years!

I joined IBM around year ago. i have 9 YOE and i was given band 7A saying its lead role. However in project i was treated as team member l. Initially i was okay as i thought i will be familiar with environment and later will take more responsibility. But then they gave me release after few months. No hike also this year. Future also seems unclear as i feel low self-esteem seeing collegues my experience earning well and having better roles. I really think joining IBM was wrong decision.

I have 7+ years of experience, how much salary offer I should expect from TechM.

Info on backdoor Roth IRA conversion. Last rear I opened up a Roth IRA but had to convert it to traditional due to exceeding the MAGI limit. For this year, do I just contribute 6K (max?) to the traditional account and then convert same amount to Roth? Is it that simple? Do I need to do anything with the current balance in the traditional from last year?
